Neville to call time on career
Gary Neville, the Manchester United captain, will retire from football at the end of this season according to a report in today’s The Sun newspaper. Out of contract in June, the club has no current plans to offer the right-back a new deal according to the report. Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes recently signed new deals at the club.
Neville has endured a number of injuries over the past couple of seasons, losing his place in the side to John O’Shea, Wes Brown and Rafael da Silva. The defender, who has made 12 appearances this season, could take up a coaching role at the club on retirement.
Neville, capped 85 times for England, has made 583 first-team appearances and won 16 major trophies for the Red Devils in a glittering 18-year career at Old Trafford.
