and you know this based on what? could we perhaps actually let ten Hag field a team before assuming how he's going to set them up?dozer wrote: ↑1 month agoWe need to control the midfield. A Kante like player would be alright because we have enough progressive players in the squad to allow for Ugarte to lay it off too.

You're ignoring Mainoo who can transition defence to attack by quick feet and progressive passes, and Bruno, whose game is all about attacking line breaking passes. There's enough there to have a player that breaks up play.dozer wrote: ↑1 month agoWe need to control the midfield. I don't know mate. I've barely watched him play. Ugarte didn't look like a player who controls the play from what I've seen of him in the couple of PSG's champions league games against Newcastle.FuB wrote: ↑1 month agoand you know this based on what? could we perhaps actually let ten Hag field a team before assuming how he's going to set them up?dozer wrote: ↑1 month agoWe need to control the midfield. He also gets taken off like Mata. I don't remember if it's because he's couldn't do 90 mins or if it was tactical. But I recall him looking like someone who's useful when we don't have the ball. rather than someone who's good with the ball. I hope I'm wrong.

He's not a De Jong or a Xavi, he isn't going to control the game. His purpose is to hunt down opposition players who have the ball and to win it back or stop them progressing. His short passing is pretty decent once he has won the ball back and so he can recycle it to a team mate who is better at progressing the ball up the pitch. We haven't had a player like him since Keano and we need someone like him when the rest of your midfield is as flimsy as ours. Mainoo has some tracking ability but he is better used to progress the ball. His temperament might be an issue, he is a bit too aggressive and that might be the reason he is taken off early, to prevent him getting red carded.
Fair enough. He can't control the game. The question is can the team control the tempo and control possession with him in the team?fat maradona wrote: ↑1 month ago He's not a De Jong or a Xavi, he isn't going to control the game. Will we also need to sub him after 60 mins often because of his issues. I prefer players who we can rely on for 90 mins.

I just checked Ugarte's injury history and it's sound. COVID and an arm injury, that's it.
Granted he's only 23 but Rashford had multiple injuries by that point including a broken back.
So let's hope that continues. Being available is a huge plus.

Don’t get the negativity. Give the lad a chance first. What’s important is that we’ve seemingly identified what we need (to win the fucking midfield battle for a change) and gone out to fix it.
We’ve not had a dedicated ball winner since Fletcher maybe? Or latter years Keano like maradona says. So in that respect it’s something the squad has been crying out for.
It would’ve been great to get an elite controlling midfielder but we’d be talking double the money for Ugarte and then the big question: would they want to come? De Jong had zero interest. Amrabat turned out not to have the legs. Those players are often slower and more creative. Can we accommodate such a player?
