Shaw’s availability is a problem but if everyone is fit, we have options at LB at least. Not like CB where we lost our best one and the others are shit apart from Martinez, or DM where we only have one and he can’t defend anymore. LB will do for another season. We can’t do everything in one window like a state run club and if we’d done a Chelsea, we’d all be shitting bricks about the club going down the pan properly.
Fair points, but I'm still a bit concerned that Dalot will be forced to play at LB, when he's much better at RB imho. The jury is still out for me wrt to Mazraoui at RB. According to his profile he can play both RB and LB, so maybe he'll work out at LB and Dalot will revert to RB?
It's fair to anticipate that Shaw will miss 10-20 games, which means he'll be the starter for 30+ in an ideal scenario. If it's less than that, we'll be in trouble.

Like you say, Dalot isn't great at LB and I'm not sure Malacia will ever be the same player after his woes (not that he was much cop anyway). Mazraoui has only ever played twice at LB for Morocco, so he's the 4th choice IMO. Dalot is much more experienced in that regard.

Shaw's level is clearly more than acceptable when fit, which is more that can be said for CB and DM - hence the logic in prioritising there. If he ends up being injured for half the season again, then it has to be game over. Think he might be a pretty big earner too and all of those players are playing with targets on their backs this season I reckon.

He's has 275 appearances over 10 seasons including cups, that's 27.5 games per season.
Malacia may not even be alive.
Anyway, ten hag has no excuses this season saying he had no left backs or left footed defenders.

Dalot is barely an acceptable right back, let alone doing anything at left back. He's trash. He plays on the left over Mazaroui so Mazaroui must be worse there.

The funny thing is Shaw isn't even that good of a left back. He's only good offensively but he's mediocre defensively, his positioning is bad and he's terrible at closing down players.

We‘ll have to agree to disagree about Dalot, dozer. As I’ve said before, I think he’s a lot better than some on here reckon, but I’d keep him at RB and work on his link play with our right sided attackers.

You’ve got to conclude that ten Hag’s decision making just isn’t up to scratch.
Stubbornly starting players who are not in form or just plain crap and then too often compounding the problem with nonsensical substitutions.

I just heard that cos we've actually sold players for a few quid and not been rinsed on the players we've bought, our net spent is reasonable which means we're in a position to buy players in Jan

We're going to need it. Whilst we've had a good window, we still need to add 5-7 of the right players over the next couple of windows to fix things.

We have to assume Shaw can't play regularly, so we need a left back.
We need another midfielder, possibly 2, so that Mainoo can actually feature as he should be, and so that we get a proper midfield playmaker into the mix.

We need a new keeper; Onana isn't good enough.

We probably need another CB for the squad once Maguire and Lindelof move on in the summer.

We need a top striker, and a top left sided forward.

Get all that, and we might be somewhere near the top again. And that's IF the likes of Yoro, Mainoo, Amad, Garnacho and Hojlund fulfill their potential.

Lots, and lots of work to do. And come January, either Hag is making a fist of it, or he's floundering which may dictate our approach to the window.

Whether we need a new keeper or not, there's no way ten Hag will replace Onana. He'll live and die on the decision if he has to.

If he sticks to players who aren't up to it, it'll cost him his job.

Whilst I understand and agree with the idea of backing him in the summer, and think there are mitigations for much of where and why we're shit, I worry about his judgement. Onana isn't a good keeper (and was free a year earlier!), Martinez is a cult hero and good at playing out, but can't actually defend, Malacia was eager but raw as hell, he's a huge Mount fan, wanted to keep Amrabat and McTominay before being persuaded to go with Ugarte instead, rated Antony (though the price tag wasn't really down to him).

Talk of Casemiro on loan to Galatasary. Turkish window doesn't close until end of next week.

If they cover a chunk of his wages, I think we'll do it, with a view to signing a midfielder in Jan. Big boost to PSR if they cover 50-60% of his wages. And he's a fucking liability now.
