After that, I think we'll see a marginal improvement on the basis that more players will be in roles and a system that's more natural to them, I expect performances to be better on the eye but I don't expect much to change results wise.
My reading of it too. I would've been more confident with Ole in big games where it's much more about getting the players to run through walls. It's something Amorim seemed to be good at too TBF.

Carrick did play 3 different systems in his 3 games in charge last time, so maybe he mixes it up. But he had weeks to prepare and not days.

Honestly all we need to do is keep creating chances for Sesko and Mbeumo for now, and we should get goals. With Amad and Bruno chipping in, maybe Cunha and Mount too, then there are goals to be had. I just worry about the defence as they've been drilled so hard into this 3/5, plus Martinez doesn't seem at it, our best pure defender in De Ligt is injured and Casemiro will be asked to cover more ground again with 2 instead of 3 behind him. Oh and Yoro is having a tough second season. Heaven is almost our second best CB right now.

Our hiring is still the same old crap isn't it?
We hire Carrick - okay, we can't hire a top manager as an interim. Fine. We then hire Evans as a first team coach. Wtf? Wasn't he a player for us until recently? Couldn't we hire someone else with proper experience as an interim? I know we won't get world class coaches in but we could have done better no? Idk about Woodgate - has he been a first team coach? I hope so.

I think we're hiring people who are simply hiring their mates.

So, I'd assumed Luis Enrique would be a non starter, but apparently:

In 2022, Luis Enrique was asked:
Would you ever consider coaching Real Madrid one day???
He replied “No. My dream has always been to one day join the biggest club in the world, Manchester United, and try to match the incredible legacy Sir Alex Ferguson left behind. What he built at United was more than trophies; it was a culture of winning, discipline, and identity. Managing a club of that stature, with its history, global fanbase, and expectations, would be the ultimate challenge.

To even aim to come close to Sir Alex’s achievements would require vision, patience, and total commitment. Manchester United represents everything I admire in football, and if the opportunity ever came, it would be a dream and a responsibility I would take very seriously."

Keane has had a go about the nepotistic nature of the Carrick appointment. He has a point. But equally I think it's cos he was overlooked as a coach. He has more experience than Evans who he slates.

I just can't be fucked tbh. I'm not really invested in who the manager is anymore. Nothing seems to work.

That's how I feel. Complete apathy to whoever comes in, because we'll find a way to be shit anyway.

That's why I'm banging the drum of just making it entertaining, which tbf it has been under Fletcher, even when the results were still shit.

Don't care who Carrick names as his staff either. All managers want people they trust, he's chosen his, whether it's nepotism or they're good enough is beside the point. He's an emergency interim. It's all about getting the next full-time appointment right and if he refuses unless his assistant is Mr Blobby, then guess who we'll be seeing in the dugout.

Yeah, I'm with you. Such is the mess we have, the rot that's set, and the lack of intent and financial means to properly build a quality squad, we're just drifting at best and continually regressing at worst, until ownership change happens. Like a long, slow terminal illness and we only come through it with a major organ transplant - and we have no idea what the waiting list looks like.

Sorry, that sounds a bit macabre.

The macabre is accurate tbf. United is dead.

The Glazers are flying in to the UK to meet Ratcliffe and co. Some are saying it's "crisis talks", others are saying it's a thing they do every year. They'll probably be at the match tomorrow watching the shitshow they've presided over.

Ineos could be on a hiding to nothing with carrick.

If he does really well to the end of the season, say top 4 and performing above expectation, they still probably shouldn't give him the job.

Then whoever they do get in permanently, if it doesnt click straight away, Ineos will be absolutely slated by media for not giving it to carrick.

Likewise, if they do give it to carrick, and he doesn't continue form into next season, again ineos will be slated hard.

Only way they win is if they get someone in who takes on from what carrick does.

Obviously this is all hypothetical, and it could be crap to end of season and we struggle for top 8, but we can dream.
