Mount misses out the friendly today against Leeds. Martinez has trained since arriving in Ireland despite that World Cup final injury and Rashford and Mainoo have trained since arriving.

It seems that Mount has had a decent pre-season up to now and he’s had some good reports in the friendlies thus far.

I really hope we can somehow get rid of him. Are we really going to extend his contract? I think his contract is up soon. He's on premium wages and he's been a serial crock so it's unlikely.
We sold Van De Beek so there is hope.

Mount has this season and next left on his contract.

I can’t see many queuing up for Mount and it would probably be a move abroad.

Aye, he's one we're probably stuck with. Unless a club in Europe is desperate for an English player, that could be our out. Either way, this has to be his last season. I'd sell now personally, but he seems to be considered as an important squaddie, so I reckon we're more likely to sell/loan next summer or just let him go on a free.

A fit Mount has plenty to offer, he can play a number of different positions and given the state of transfer fees and the United tax, we might as well keep him if he can stay fit and contribute. It's either bad luck or bad work from the medical team but fuck me, Mount and De Ligt should raise alarm bells.

A fit Mount is a myth and even a fit and prime Mount will be benched for Bruno unless other members of the squad have injuries.
He's on premium wages, like Shaw. We still have so much of the Woodward stench in our squad which is holding us back. We can't sell Rashford, Mount, Shaw and Onana. 3 of them are English players, yet we can't get rid.
De Ligt however was an Ineos blunder - a Woodward style signing. He was known to be injury prone, there was this Ten Hag Dutch bias, and he's also on premium wages.

Mount & Bruno are two completely different players stylistically. It's like you're comparing Zidane to Deschamps. All I'm saying is that we can't sell him, no one wants to buy an injury prone player, so might as well utilise his versatility. He's not as useless as some fans think and he's better than fielding the Fletcher twins.

Mount and Bruno are different, of course they are - when did I say otherwise? Bruno is unique. I don't know why you think I'm comparing their styles. Their best position is the 10. In our preferred 11, Mount doesn't start when everyone including Mount are fit. Cunha and Mbuemo start on the wings. Bruno starts as a 10 behind Sesko. Like I said, Mount who's on premium wages will be benched for Bruno by design.

I'm also saying we likely can't sell him so of course we have to use him if he's here.

So what do we think of the midfield balance?

Santos / Baleba
Mainoo / Tielemans

Looks good on paper - we now need the real Carlos Baleba to please stand up!

Good mix of everything there for when we're in possession. Santos likes to come deep and work the ball forward. Baleba gets all over the place and can start counters. Mainoo will help you keep the ball and keep it tidy + he has an x-factor moment in him. Tielemans joins Bruno to play in the forwards and can roll players. Then there's Mount who can fill in gaps when fit.

Still not overly optimistic about this lot defensively, but with Baleba now, there's at least one player accustomed to winning the ball back and moving it on. Mainoo showed he was capable of that sort of thing too last season, and Santos isn't a slouch in that area, just not elite.
