He doesn’t appear to have the work ethic Amorim (and all top clubs) demand, and I question the timing and need for him to give this interview. It’s selfish and self indulgent, and smacks to me to having a strop or throwing the towel in after being dropped for the Derby. And now what, if he ends up having to stay till May? It creates the optics of an issue, needlessly.

Take the money, bin him off, rebuild. There are literally no more than 4 or 5 players I’m wedded to absolutely keeping,
He didn't "give" the interview in some sort of arranged way like Rooney and Ronaldo both did, wasn't he at the primary school and got asked the questions?

Fair, you could argue he could've said "no comment" but he's chosen to answer and it's all respectful and he doesn't explicitly say "i'm off". He clearly states that it doesn't bother him that he was dropped and that he just has to keep working hard. I don't get how that is inferred as a strop?
Yeah, fair point. I just don't think the drama around it helps - for him, or the club.

He very much needs a change. No hard feelings and all that, I hope he goes somewhere and nails it - we've just need to shake things up, change the profile of player we have, and if we get 40-50m of pure PSR profit, that's a lot of wriggle room to make 2 or 3 new signings.

Didn't the club discipline him more than once? I'd be curious to know what he has to say about that. He clearly wasn't doing what the club expected of him at those specific times. I'm sure he'll do a proper sit down interview one day.
Yeah he was disciplined 3 times under Hag. Also we've all got eyes. We've seen him literally do nothing in games. There's a clip going round of a Manchester derby where he stands still as a City player heads the ball. He didn't contest it. That happens quite often.

For me he suits counterattacking football where he doesn't have to press and has space to run into. He played his best stuff under Ole.

The latest is he was sent home from Carrington on Monday with a high temp. So that might be the last we see him. Having said that, it's gonna be hard to shift him... And it also sounds like the "new challenge" comment was said in passing, so he's not necessarily out the door yet.
I agree when you say counter attacking football suits Rashford. We've played counter attacking football a lot in the last decade and he's been mediocre for most of his time here.

Is that just another convoluted way of you saying you think rashord is shit.

Where is the convolution?
I was explicitly pointing out that we've mostly played football that suited him ie counter attacking football and he's still been poor.

Really feels like we've seen the last of Rashford. He hasn't travelled with the team for 2 games. It doesn't seem like he can get back into the team now.

Makes me wonder, does he have a club lined up for Jan?

Also, I wouldn't be surprised if we don't replace him. Ineos will see it as saving 17m a year. And tbf to the cunts, it's right. The number 1 priority is making the club profitable and the main way we'll do that is getting rid of expensive shit cunts.

Saudi hopefully buy him.
Southgate was never daft enough to pick him even years ago. Somehow he still earned a 325k contract with us. He's somehow still a popular player so hopefully we swindle someone, somehow. It's a long shot.

Pretty much his whole England career was under southgate.

At least 54 of his 60 caps.

He did lose his place in the end, but Southgate was "daft" enough to pick him many many times.

The contract was offered coming of back of his most productive season. Its easy to see why it was offered.

There would have been meltdown had they not done anything, and let him go for free the following summer.

It's easy to say in hindsight that was the wrong decision.

Please. There was hardly any hindsight required for basic common sense. I did question why we were extending the contract of a person, with high wages, for someone who played pretty well only in his final year of his contract.
If you look at the way the club operates, atleast under the Glazers, the players were bigger than the manager and therefore the club. Even the fans are more patient with the players. It's not like we had prime Ronaldo or Messi who was bigger. Mediocre players like Rashford and Shaw were given more time by the fans and the club.

Fans are stupid. Anyone half decent won't let the fans decide who stays or goes. The Glazers shouldn't have extended their contracts. I'm not sure but I think we tried to extend Pogba's contract too but we couldn't agree on wages. I wonder if he wanted 500k and that's where the club drew the line.

Southgate was the manager for most of Rashford‘s time so he'll play but he wasn't really first choice for a good chunk of his time. He wasn't first choice in any of the big cups from the 2018 world cup iirc so that was his level - mid level player, not a 325k pw player. What hindsight did Southgate need to not pick the player?

Fuck me dozer, you just stated "Southgate was never daft enough to pick him even years"
I was simple pointing out that wasn't the case. He has at least 54 caps from Southgate.

On the contract, yes, we all know you wouldn't have given the contract, as you know more than the execs in place, if only you'd been appointed in place of Woodward, we wouldn't be in this shitshow.

For the rest of us average Joes, including all the pundits who got it wrong and talked about getting him locked into the contract.

Its easy to say the contract shouldn't have been offered now, the club did what seemed best at the time.

Alternative universe, he has another 30 goal season, goes off to psg on free, and club look like complete mugs losing their best academy prospect in years for free.

What if Rashford becomes a world beater for Psg? That's just poor FOMO logic. What if I sold my house or shares and its value doubled in a year? That can't be the way to run a business, but what you said is probably exactly how Woodward thinks.

Rashford was rewarded just for giving us one good season (arguably, his passing and link up play was still shit) with a contract normally to the likes of peak Casemiro, De Bruyne etc.
They completely disregarded his performances over many years and simply considered his latest performance.

When we reward players with contracts we must pay them for how well they performed for us across all their time in the past with some extra weightage for recency, but not too much. We must also use this information, including their age to estimate how they'll perform for us for the future. Otherwise the message is that consistency isn't valued at the club and that's exactly what it means. Hypothetically if Luke Shaw had a world class season for us with good fitness then I'd still get rid of him. I'd try to use this to get a good fee. Fans complain saying who'll buy Rashford and luke Shaw for high wages and fees, and they'd be right. If Shaw had a great season this year, the same fans wouldn't want us to sell him. This means there is never a good time to sell according to the fans. Everything fans say is based on hindsight but it's too late. We must follow a process and forget about worrying if the player becomes world class for an other club. If they do, we'll, hopefully that means we can get rid of more players who were crap for us for high fees.
