Sir Kenny too
Hope you're right Sid. I did have the thought myself that he might not be the right fit, but then there's a reason both us and City have spoken to him in recent years. But being highly regarded isn't everything, look at Amorim ffs... and Liverpool is the most similar club to ours in the world (bar maybe Bayern and Madrid) in that the position of manager is inherently political and the demands/pressure are instantaneous. Lose 2-3 in a row and you'll have fans and the media calling for your head.Fuck the Glazers wrote: ↑3 months ago I might be getting this wrong but Liverpool hiring Iraola seems a bit seems a bit reactionary. He's flavour of the month, and doesn't seem like the perfect fit for that squad.
Given their shite signings recently, it's as if the brains behind the club are getting it wrong. Their DoF is new. But it's like they've got a new approach as well.
It all seems a bit United under the Glazers for me.
Common sense (and this might be wrong) says Alonso would have been the best choice. But they missed the boat by not being decisive enough and acting quickly.
My concern would be it leaves gaps, like Slot. You have to get it spot on or you can be got at. That was the genius of Klopp. Salah was also key in managing the risk by cos he changed games and put teams away. I wonder how effective that style of play is nowadays. And there's a lack of physical aggression in the squad nowadays which can be seen in their reduced turnovers.JoelfuckingGlazer wrote: ↑3 months ago I actually think Iraola is perfect for Liverpool. If we hadn't stuck with Carrick, he's the one I wanted here. Similarities to Klopp - high press, high intensity, vertical football, good in transitions etc. I think he'll do well there, sadly.
I disagree. Slot was fucked because he lost some good players, Salah and Van Dijk are past their prime and their new galactico players except Ekitike weren't very good.Fuck the Glazers wrote: ↑3 months agoMy concern would be it leaves gaps, like Slot. I mean, I might be talking pure shit. There's a chance they absolutely fly out of the trap next season with a top new manager, some new ideas and a renewed will to smash teams after Slots bullshit.
I just think FSG are shit owners comparable to the Glazers. Klopp and Edwards masked their bullshit and built an effective system, like Fergie and Gill. But that's gone now along with their talisman, Salah.
Still peddling your "just buy good players" thing after the season we've just witnessed? It absolutely makes an enormous difference what system is used. Amorim well and truly fucked us with his, Arsenal have maybe 3 top class players and have ground out a title on corners and fouling.dozer wrote: ↑3 months agoI disagree. That's all - it mostly boils down to how good your players are.
Slot won the league in his first season and he changed the way they played - he employed his system quickly. They didn't press as much, and had less possession. Why didn't his system fail him then?
Iraola has the benefit of making more signings but if they don't do well, he'll be gone regardless of his system.
I'm not saying the system and tactics aren't important. It needs to suit the club and the players. Slot won the league and his system in his first season was clearly in place and it was different from Klppp's. Amorim didn't do shit in his first season unlike Slot so it's not a valid comparison. His system was clearly incompatible. We also didn't have enough defenders to play his 3 CB formation.Felwin wrote: ↑3 months agoStill peddling your "just buy good players" thing after the season we've just witnessed? Slot failed because his tactics are Ten Hag's. Too basic, too strict. I would love for all Liverpool's signings to be flops, but there's no doubt their talent is better than 5th. Apart from their obvious problems of losing Van Dijk and Salah, there are quality players there.
Disagree on slots 1st year, he didn't change the team or tactics that much. Tweaked a little, but it was still very much in klopps mould. He was helped by it not being very competitive that year as well. 2nd summer they went all out to bring in players to completely change how they played and style of football. There was no comparison between his 1st amd 2nd season, and it went completely tit's up.dozer wrote: ↑3 months agoI'm not saying the system and tactics aren't important. Just been reading about it and he says it was different to the other year where he essentially died on the pitch but was reanimated. The implant he has on his heart noticed an irregularity and shocked his heart back into the proper rhythm. Looked horrendous but the device did it's job and he's recovering well.JoelfuckingGlazer wrote: ↑3 months ago https://www.skysports.com/football/news ... s-on-pitch
Must be terrifying for his family. Surely he has to call it a day now....?
