Yet some are defending Amorim's 30% win ratio as part of the process.

Imagine if we still had standards
How long does Madrid keep their crap players? How many years?
They have a quite elegant solution to this problem: the Spanish government underwrites them, so they can stick to buying the absolute best. When's the last time you heard of a Madrid signing a dud?

They're the best at transfers, yes, but they've signed a few duds, and duly shipped them out quickly.
Wasn't Endrick a recent signing? I remember Jovic being signed for high fees and then thrown out in no time a few years ago.
I think Eden Hazard stayed for 3 years though - but it must have been hard to get rid of him.

Point being you need to get rid of shit players like we do with shit managers - it's unfair to ask the manager to improve the crap. It's going to be the usual. Bruno and Case will play well. The rest will be shite.
Perhaps a few young players, like Sesko might improve but the players aged 23/24+ won't suddenly improve.

Watching Arsenal v Chelsea. I haven't watched much of Arsenal this season and whenever I see their lineup, it doesn't look as impressive as their form. But watching them they look like they have 15 players on the pitch. Their press is very impressive, their defensive shape is watertight, very little spaces between players, they get bodies forward. Obviously a product of top coaching and time for players to understand the system properly.

It's honestly what I expected to see from Amorim in the end. His system just ended up being too fucking weird and he ended up too defeatist.

City are in for Guehi. If they get him for his assumed value of around £55m, they'll have spent £500m on players in a year.

I'm still skeptical anything will happen, but it does look like they might be stockpiling and/or blowing out before an expected big punishment. Maybe betting on players sticking with them for a season in the Championship and/or having resale value in order to give them a huge PSR boost for when they come straight back up. I also think one of the reasons Haaland was essentially put on a lifetime contract is because he might go out on loan if they get relegated, then they'd call him back once they're promoted.

I know I'm speculating a lot, but if nothing else, City are purposefully flaunting their power. Daring the PL to do something.

Totally. Abu Dhabi are picking up some of that spending without a doubt. What's the likelihood Guehi has two wages n all; one from City and one from a mystery company with links to Mansour. Or they could pay him 3m for 5 training sessions upon his retirement. Or move him to another one of City's 12 clubs as a coach or consultant and pay him handsomely.

The game's gone.

No club can afford that level of spending. Chelsea could, but that was all debt. There won't be any debt on City's books. If City can afford it, and it's a big if, it's only cos they've spent the last 17 years financially doping so they've got the money & room on the wage bill.

I don’t think it’s a sign of anything, it’s just City doing what they’ve done ever since they sold their soul. They’ll continue to get away with it.

I do think the game’s gone though. Not just in terms of the finances involved, but the essence has gone. It’s more sterile, not as enjoyable. The mavericks have gone out of the game, the real flair players. Everything’s just sanitised.

I was thinking this earlier today. Mate sent me an Obafemi Martins goal for Newcastle against Spurs and we were both saying how it would never get scored today. Only about 15 years ago, but players have that kind of stuff drilled out of them these days.

I'm glad I had the 90s!

Never mind the united resurgence through out the decade and steam rolling the English league, culmanating in the pinnacle of 99 and all the moments that came with it.

But the international football as well, i was bit too young for italia 90, but World cup 94 as an Irish boy was class, france 98 with Zidane, R9, Cafu, carlos. The 98 games were a great ko time getting home school. Then euro 96 as well, not really anything from Irish perspective, but the mood and football from gazza and England.

Was a glorious time. Maybe ive rose tinted glasses, but was a peak decade for me.
