That's what I mean with them sussing the zeitgeist. Their reasons might be more cynical, but it lines up with most fans wanting something they can hang their hat on.

There have always been negative fans, even when we were on top and winning everything. But the apathy is a new phenomenon. Granted I was a kid, but even when we were shit in the 80s, there was a buzz about us. Bit of gallows humour when we had a shit season, boisterous when the football looked mint. Now virtually everyone I know in person says they watch the games because they feel they have to, not out of enjoyment. Plenty of us on here have said similar things.

Ole is a great counter to that apathy. 19+ games left this season and IMO we could lose 5-10 but as long as they aren't the sort of pathetic, catastrophic drubbings that mainly started under Rangnick and beyond, I'd be fine with it. Ole always had us up for big games so a cup run suddenly feels possible (if he's in for Brighton). It's all about healing that part of the club in the next 4 months. Then like you and Ash say, Wilcox and Berrada have that time to brainstorm and find a manager that will fit.

JoelfuckingGlazer wrote: 1 month ago Purely as interim I can see the logic. He's popular with players, he'll steady the ship emotionally, give the club some headroom to think and plan for what comes next. He knows the club etc, so his ability to just slot in will be second to none. Given the circumstances I can't think of a better interim, but I do hope he's joined by Carrick as is being mooted.

My worry is - what then? Either it goes badly, which will be hard to watch and which sets the club back further. Or it goes well and INEOS give him the job permanently, which I 100% think they'd do, and 100% think it'd be a mistake.

Strictly as interim, with a remit to get European football and then step aside, I'm ok with.
In theory we have the best in business making these decisions now. If Ole steadies the ship it should allow Berrada and Wilcox to get their heads together and come up with a plan for summer and beyond. They need to settle on an identity.

I think the identity is clearer now. It was hugely controversial before, particularly under Jose. The issue was muddied by Fergie switching from attacking football to the 541 shite which he had to do, and was successful. But that took us away from playing attacking football.

I saw Nev talking clearly about what he wants; 4 at the back, attacking wingers, and an attacking mindset. I think we all want that now? Seems to be more consensus on it nowadays.

If Ole provides that then the brains trust may make him permanent. One thing's for certain, this regime are desperate for some positive PR. They're getting hammered. Ratcliffe in particular. This may sound mental, but for the next 2-3 years it might not matter who the manager is. As long as we're in and around the top 6, with no real drama and a sense of being reasonably attractive, the main priority has to be to build a better squad. If we can build a genuine top 4 squad, even with an average manager, we may then be able to make the change that works. Ideally we'll get it right now - but at a minimum, it just needs to not be completely fucking wrong, because the biggest issue we have that needs sorting is the quality of the squad.

Agreed, Amorim was our biggest immediate issue.

Now he's gone the absolute priority in every sense is improving the squad.

I think Sir Jim is on the right lines - assuming those quotes are real.

I think even Luis Enrique would be a risk for us. He'd be better off at City.

The United job has got to go to Emery, if we can get him.

We've tried everything, let's do something wild like let AI have a go. Pay for Gemini Pro, not just the basic shit. It would pick a good 11, I know that much.

Just asked Claude (my go to at work as that ChatGPT cunt has something of the night about him)

4-3-3 high pressing, quick transitions

Lammens
Dalot De Ligt Martinez Malacia =))
Ugarte
Bruno Mainoo
Amad Sesko Mbeumo

Honestly not far off right, Malacia aside.

Its probably just anticipating an injury to Shaw. Seems fair.

Yeah, Malacia aside, that's a decent 11. It's got Ugarte in his best position as well where he just keeps it simple. See, that's better than anything Amorim came up with.

would welcome your thoughts on that sort of thing in the off topic thread
