It's a shame we have had players like Bruno and Casemiro when we're shit.

In a way though, the only reason we do have them is because we're shit.

No other top team wanted to take a punt on Bruno because they thought there was no room for a 10 in modern football. When we got Casemiro, a lot of us felt we were getting Madrid's cast offs.

I agree, but then I thought imagine how shit we'd have been without those two. Bruno in particular.

I'm surprised he's going. We have the likes of Shaw and Mount who are probably on 50k pw less than Case but offers nothing close to what Case does for us.

I don't place as much importance on that as some might, those leaders go AWOL more often than not. Time for some new blood to step up.

Said it before, but it’s worth repeating; I’d give Martinez a run out in the Casemiro role.

Rio interviews Casemiro

Seems like a really nice guy. We'll really miss his winning mentality when he leaves. Could easily have come here on a jolly.

Earlier it was Lindelof. You seem to love the idea of playing a defender who's decent at the ball as a holding midfielder. It rarely seems to happen in practice.

The one time we did it, enforced, he was quality. I'd try it in the last came or two - why not? But I'll be honest, if someone came in and put 40-50m on the table this summer, I'd take it. His availability record is a problem and whilst he's quality on the ball, I don't think he's good enough defensively. i.e. not consistent enough. He's pulled out some mega performances and kept Haaland in his pocket, but he's had too many flaky games too. He'll get targeted in the CL next season.

Regarding Martinez, I think that quality passing from the back has been key to Carrick’s tactics. Our play was more aimless without him.

Regarding Casmiro, I think we could actually improve on him in a tactical sense by getting someone really energetic and mobile. But he has that match winning X factor that has helped repeatedly us get results much better than our performances. He’s basically pulled us back into the CL I could see us replacing him with someone like Baleba, and then have the outcome that our performances improve but our results get worse.
