Same old same old. We paid a premium for an average player because we’re shit at transfers.

He's taibi mk 2. Fergie binned taibi quickly. Let's see how ten hag deals with this.
It's not just the last couple of games either. Onana has been poor from the start.
We could play him in midfield maybe.

To my knowledge he didn't make many gaffs at Inter. I think some of it is the pressure of playing for United. Like Nev said, it's the hardest job in football. Character profiles are essential.

And cos we're so easy to play against, he's facing a lot of shots which highlights his poor shot stopping and positioning.

Also we're not seeing the benefit of the one thing he's brilliant at; his press breaking passing / attack creation cos Martinez is injured. None of our other CBs are good on the ball under pressure.

That’s fair actually. It’s not his fault he faces 3-4 quality chances a game. Dave was throwing them in last season too.

And I did think tonight that Dalot and Varane kept killing the buildup which puts Onana under pressure too. Are we just too easy to press? Seems like Amrabat and Martinez are the only press-resistant players we have.

He's letting everything go in at the minute. He's suffering cos of the poor defending and tactical naivety. But it's gonna be a long time before we have Varane, Martinez and Shaw all starting the same game.

His introduction to the PL was always going to be rough, with a lot of pundits ready to pounce. ETH has taken a big risk here. Then again, we needed some kind of change of GK. None of the preferred back 4 being available is obviously making the situation much worse. He’s going to have to be very thick skinned.

Agreed, he’s been thrown into the pressure cooker and we allow so many good chances in the box, he’s going to have to pull off some worldies.

But he really struggles to get down. All the shots he lets in are low and close to him. Not sure that’s down to the situation, seems more a weakness.

If we cut out the stupid amount of chances we allow right in front of our goal, things should improve anyway. Not sure when that’ll occur with Hag unwilling to compromise.

Thoughts on Onana?
I think he's been very good in the last few months.
He's come out to claim crosses and corners and he's been instrumental in our outfield gameplay. He plays a lot of dangerous long balls.
Oh and his saves have been alright.

Hope the first few months were a blip. He cost us 2-3 games in the CL.

We know how capable we are of ruining players so hopefully with him it was the step up and now he's adjusted. He's definitely pulling off plenty of solid saves. Quietly going about his business. I can't remember a goal against in a while where I thought "what is he up to?", so I guess that's improvement.

Clearly not a chump for Inter to make him their first choice keeper but as we saw with De Gea, once that mentality starts to wobble, it can be over fast with keepers. It'd save us a ton of money if he stays strong. Imagine the next manager having to buy a keeper again. It'd be yet another farce tbf.
