He has a lot of shots coming his way too, more than most keepers, certainly more than keepers at big clubs are supposed to deal with. It has to be hard to balance that with his distribution responsibilities.Felwin wrote: ↑1 year agoHope the first few months were a blip. He cost us 2-3 games in the CL.
We know how capable we are of ruining players so hopefully with him it was the step up and now he's adjusted. He's definitely pulling off plenty of solid saves. Quietly going about his business. I can't remember a goal against in a while where I thought "what is he up to?", so I guess that's improvement.
Clearly not a chump for Inter to make him their first choice keeper but as we saw with De Gea, once that mentality starts to wobble, it can be over fast with keepers. It'd save us a ton of money if he stays strong. Imagine the next manager having to buy a keeper again. It'd be yet another farce tbf.
Onana
He's nowhere near good enough for United, unfortunately. I think another keeper would have saved the second and third goals yesterday.
Everyone goes on about Onana's kicking ability but I want a top class shot stopper, first and foremost.
His positioning is suspect and he doesn't get down quickly enough.
Him and Anthony were the two worst signings ten Hag made.

Thing is though, he's still better than De Gea was in his final 3-4 seasons.sheesh wrote: ↑1 year ago He's nowhere near good enough for United, unfortunately. I think another keeper would have saved the second and third goals yesterday.

The weirdest part about having him is Hag wanted a ball player but all Onana does is boot it long. So he's got his man but still feels compelled to instruct him to belt it to Rashford which is just what De Gea was doing. Maybe Onana does it more accurately, but it's not like he's getting assists every other game.

The next manager won't rate him and he'll be out on his arse. I don't think they'll overlook his shit shot stopping ability cos he's an exceptional ball playing keeper.sheesh wrote: ↑1 year ago He's nowhere near good enough for United, unfortunately. I checked some stats on Onana:
PSxG – GA shows whether a keeper exceeded (positive) or underperformed (negative) relative to those chances:
In 23/24 Onana was the 5th best in the league with +2.2
In 24/25 he was 12th with +1.0
Goalkeeping errors leading to goals:
In 23/24 11th= with 1 error
In 24/25 4th highest with 3 errors
Premier League average for Crosses Stopped %:
League Average: 6.6%
Onana in 24/25: 5.7%
Overall he is an average Premier League Keeper. He lost confidence and had a bad season after a promising start. His defenders don't seem to have confidence in him with some notable instances of communication breakdown. In the medium term he is not good enough to help United get to where they want to be. If no reasonable offers are received, at the least they should replace Bayindir with a keeper good enough to challenge Onana. Another poor signing by Ten Hag/Murtough.

Confirms what we all knew; that he's average. Thing is, average keepers stand out more than average out field players cos when they make a mistake it often leads to a goal.Remi Moses wrote: ↑7 months ago I checked some stats on Onana:

The pressure is on Wilcox and the others to get the keeper right. It's a position that requires top quality. It's worth spending big money on rather than looking for a bargain.

I would accept any reasonable offer then replace with whatever budget can be scraped together following a striker & CM.Fuck the Glazers wrote: ↑7 months ago The pressure is on Wilcox and the others to get the keeper right. I would be very happy overall if the window closes with all the motley crew sold/loaned with a Striker, CM, GK, Cunha & Mbeumo.

"all the motley crew sold/loaned".
Admittedly, you haven't named the "motley crew" but it does sound a little reminiscent of dozer's standard "sell everyone crap" mantra.
