I do like the look of Baumgartner for Austria.

Totally agreed on that. He's a standout and we should have kept Sabitzer

I think what Dozer is trying to say is that he knew everything all along and that everyone else has no idea. What he knows and what everyone else knows changes between posts. - Felwin 31/10/2024

Turkey have been great tbf. Along with Georgia, Romania, Albania and Austria, they’ve played with freedom in attack. When you compare them to Slovenia and Slovakia who just wanted to stink out the place, no contest.

Holland will have too much for them though.

So England finally turned up and made it into the final!
I wonder if Southgate will actually manage to beat Spain and claim the title?
If so, whoever referees the final will have to get on top of Spain's cheating - you only have to look at them and they throw themselves on the ground and roll about in feigned agony... :eatpopcorn:

Kane's done the worst dive of the tournament so far.

I'm pleased for England though. I thought I'd be more arsed tbh but football is a bit shit these days.

I reckon Spain will win. They're a well balanced side and unlike England have a style - one that involves in keeping the ball.

...I've got a horrible feeling England will play the usual Southgate shit football, fluke it to a draw and then win on penalties. And then everyone will go crazy and praise Southgate to the rafters.

If he wins then he deserves credit.
He's been quite consistent. He made the finals of a major tournament the last time. England's golden generation were far superior in terms of ability and didn't come close to what Southgate has achieved with this team.

Can I take it then that you would welcome him with open arms to OT?

No, but he's been England's best manager. We can't ignore the facts and the results. So why should they get rid of him?
I'd take him over Tuchel though. At least Southgate has delivered consistently, unlike Tuchel.

Was anyone on here honestly surprised that England started looking like a proper footballing team once Mainoo started getting picked?

Credit where it's due to Southgate, switching to that four man midfield and getting all the composed ball-players into the same side has made England capable of beating anyone. I almost think they might do it too.

Southgate is not cut out for club management though. Players know the national setup is a different beast. If he was making some of those poor in game decisions and picking weird teams week in week out, he'd lose the dressing room quickly. It's alright to have the substitute teacher vibe here and there, but not as your permanent boss.
