...and you think ‘what kind of fucking due diligence was done?!’.
Or might it be a case of things were promised to him which subsequently didn't transpire? Berrada was so desperate to appoint him as the new manager, who's to say that Ruben wasn't told he would be fully backed to play his system and that there was money there to buy whoever he wanted. And that he would be Manager and not head coach, despite his title being Head Coach. It's happened in the past, just listen to LvG and Mourinho talk about their tenures. It's the same story, different managers, over promise and under deliver.

Ruben was clearly too inexperienced to come to United and be expected to take us back to the glory days. He wasn't strong enough to deal with the corporate bastards that run the club. Maybe his brand of football works, maybe it doesn't....we'll only know how well he does with it at his next club.

I can imagine there's at least an element of that too. And therein lies the rub; a Head Coach model can work, IF every aspect of the model works. I.e. you have a strong squad, the means of continually investing in that squad, complete alignment on playing style and principles etc. We have none of that.

Johnny Evans coming back as a short term assistant.

I think Ole will get the interim gig.

I dont mind ole, but ive seen it mentioned, there was a lack of discipline under him. How true that was I dunno.

But there was serious rot in the dressing room when amorim came in, and that is one thing he did sort. he booted out the "truble" makers, and seemed to have cleared a unity in the dressing room.

Maybe if that rot isn't already there, it wont be something introduced under ole, especially if performances improve.

Hi all, been a while since I posted. I got tired feeling like I was watching a great institution die, the soul and wealth sucked out by parasites. (I mean United, not Rant!). But curiosity about Amorim got me interested again this season.

Anyway, I think sacking him was necessary. it’s almost liked he made them do it the way he’s been mouthing off the last few days (maybe he’s got something else to go to?). I think the good news is that, for once, the club has sacked the manager when the season can still be salvaged. It’s massively important if the club can secure a CL spot. That could actually help bring the club back from the brink. We don’t deserve to have that still be a possibility, but it is, so I hope Fletcher or whoever can grind out the results. Keeping it tight at the back and counting on the likes of Fernandes and Mbuemo to create some goals should be enough, the way the league is this season.

In the summer, I think the club should do everything to sign Emory, he’s exactly what we need. The priority needs to be re-establishing us as CL regulars. Then you can build on that to get silverware. Emory’s obviously good enough to do that. But he might not be interested, especially if Villa is in the CL and we’re not. But I think some sort of proven manager in that mould is what’s needed to stabilize things, and then maybe go for a real philosophy manager in a few years if that’s what’s needed to take us to the next level.

Welcome back bman.

I totally agree with you on the timing of Amorim's sacking.

Good shout also on Emery. He's already managed a club like Arsenal, so he will have learned from his experience there.

Welcome back Bman.

Emery would be my first choice pick, by a mile. Only has a year left on his deal too, so he may be gettable.

More and more coming out that all has not been well behind the scenes for a while with Amorim. And the recent move to a back 4 was against his will, and his rapid return to a back 5 after 45 quality minutes against Newcastle didn't go down well at all - which, tbf, monumentally pissed me off too.
