Fletcher says he took Fergie's blessings for the interim interim manager role and that he does so before taking any major decision. He's already demonstrated that he's a massive pussy.
If you think about it, Fergie's players mostly seem subservient and timid. I suppose that's what made them great players because they were able to focus on getting better at their job. But that's part of their identity now and they've not grown out of it. Only Keane seems like the kind of guy who is strong enough to not tolerate bullshit and not engage in idol worship - he also seems like the most sensible of the lot.
What are you on about?
Robbo, Bruce, Hughes and Ince all became half-decent managers in their own right, partly through not taking any shit. Rio isn't afraid to be gobby in the media. Rooney is a fairly decent pundit who doesn't come across as timid whatsoever, quite the opposite. Evra, Giggs, Hargreaves, Butt, even quiet lad Scholes all speak their mind when you get to hear them (some of them we hear far too much from).
Your're basing this schtick on Ole being deferential to Fergie and now Fletcher having a conversation with him. It's obvious the media turn it into "Fletcher asks for SAF's blessings", like Fergie is the fucking Pope anointing him. It's just for clicks, mate. Put yourself in Fletcher's shoes. In a culture where ringing up old bosses and comrades is burnt in, wouldn't you give the greatest manager of all time a tinkle? A guy who trusted you in big games, made your CV amazing and stood by you and your family as your health and career fell apart? But no, apparently that makes him a massive pussy
Something we do agree on is Keano. I couldn't stand his gobbyness post United at first, but he is mostly right to demand more, and when he's wrong he's funny to listen to. He definitely likes playing the miserable twat with a wry smile, but there's a lot of substance to what he says too.
The media didn't say shit.
Watch his interview on sky. He literally says he took Fergie's blessings for the role or for any major decision.
Even Scholes, in one of the Overlap interviews said that the worst thing he's ever done is ask Fergie was a wage raise because Juve or someone else offered him a deal with massive wages. Fergie just said no and Scholes walked away without a word.
The players you mentioned are gobby and straightforward but not to everyone. They still have the reverential attitude when it comes to authority or their idols. I'm not saying they should be completely confrontational like Keane - it must be balanced.
