I'm afraid I'm inclined to agree with Felwin, dozer. Just looking at the stats will never be as revealing as actually watching the game. The level of determination demonstrated was remarkable, though of course this doesn't mean it won't all fall apart again.
What we need now is a consistent run of games at the same level of intensity and team spirit that was on show in the last two games and need to be ruthless when it comes to dealing with weaker teams.
Problem is, we still have a big issue when it comes to scoring goals. I'd therefore like to see Amorim tweaking his system from 3421 to try 3412, as I don't think he has a character able to carry out the lone striker role.
Vs Arsenal (FA Cup)
Precisely the point I made in the Southampton thread in a round about way.swampash wrote: ↑1 year ago I'm afraid I'm inclined to agree with Felwin, dozer. I'm fully expecting it to be laborious tomorrow because we are yet to see much evidence that we can consistently create chances. If they work their arses off again and maintain the defensive performances (and never, ever play Casemiro+Eriksen again), then a clean sheet should be easy against an even shitter team. Will we see it, who the fuck knows? But if we play like at Anfield and the Emirates in the remaining FA Cup/Europa League games, there's no reason we can't do something remarkable in Amorim's first season. And it will be remarkable because we are still shit.
The point about the tactic is interesting tbf. I don't think he'll tweak as he's been very clear that he has his system, but there's no reason why he couldn't play Garna, Hojlund and Bruno and get the sort of movement to make it a 10 behind two strikers. Problem then is we need at least 1 wingback bombing on and we have a big fat zero able to play that way.
Just playing with ideas tbf Swampy, had Garnacho in my head because he was decent last two games and maybe more a forward than Amad.
Mount isn't physical enough for wingback IMO. Collyer might be more of a shout but his sub appearance the other night showed he's probably above Casemiro for a midfield slot now.
4 lines. Each with very interesting points.Felwin wrote: ↑1 year ago Fucking brilliant, that.
The main thing Amorim has changed since coming in is giving them belief and unity. If he hadn't spent 10-15 games trying every combination of player, we might already be turning the season around.
As it stands, we're still taking the first steps. But they are big steps. Now I feel confident we can get a trophy in his first season. Europa or FA Cup look "winnable".
And how fucking top would it be if we snook up and finished above City or the Gooners?
I'm genuinely curious - where do you stand on each of these points now?
1) Are we still brilliant?
2) Do we still have belief and unity?
3) Are we still taking big steps towards the second tier trophies this season - do they still look winnable?
4) Do we still have a change to finish above City or Arsenal?
Swampsy agreed with you but I think he now wants Amorim gone. What about you?

Don't pretend you're interested beyond trying to score a cheap point but ok, let's play the literal game:dozer wrote: ↑1 year ago4 lines. Each with very interesting points.Felwin wrote: ↑1 year ago Fucking brilliant, that.

1) Clearly referring to the game as it's in the match thread.
2) Yes. I believe Amorim.
3) The last two games were Prem so we'll see in the cups.
4) I didn't say we had a chance, I said it'd be fucking top.
No-one wants Amorim gone. Some want him to change system.
