Scholes was my favourite footballer ever since I started watching the prem, and he's been the only favourite that I've had. I don't think I'm being biased but I also like his punditry. He sounds miserable because the that's what the reality is. I think he's the most logical pundit out there.
He's not delusional unlike the other pundits and fans.
He doesn't provide any bullshit insight because there is none to provide. I can see why that would be boring but to be exciting all the time would mean conjuring up crap where there is none.
I don't agree with everything he says but I find myself agreeing with him more often than the others.
Commentator cunts
But he's been miserable for the last 7-8 years. Just because we now are literally in the shitter and his views match reality doesn't make him any less miserable for the sake of it. I even think he'd moan if we won the league. He's not the only former player that does it like, G.Nev does it but at least tries to be rational, but Rio, Rooney etc. all sit there talking about how shit it is now compared to their day like no-one even noticed that the club has been gutted of talent in every area. Misery begets misery. They don't help, they just pile on pressure, especially when a lot of them are idols of the current players.dozer wrote: ↑10 months ago Scholes was my favourite footballer ever since I started watching the prem, and he's been the only favourite that I've had. Like I said in my post, I like Keano because at least he's constructive. He'll be miserable as well of course but he consistently talks about working hard and doing your job. If the players do that, then at the very least they'll be likeable. He's completely wrong about Bruno's attitude, but Bruno suffers due to the gesticulation and cultural differences - in Portugal/Spain/Italy he'd be an average player but here he stands out - especially with our talking heads being from a completely different generation that either took it on the chin or started on you, rather than moan and throw their arms around.
We've been good in the last 7-8 years. Even the seasons where we came second, we weren't any closer to winning the league and those players are still considered flops. We were playing in moments and flashes of quality, instead of playing as a team.Felwin wrote: ↑10 months agoBut he's been miserable for the last 7-8 years. His negativity was warranted.
"He'd be moaning if we won the league" - you're just assuming that mate. So far his negativity has been legit.
The only difference is he is negative in advance, especially when the fans are pretty positive during the summer transfer windows. I can relate because my views more or less match. I was very skeptical of the last transfer window as well.
But if you were to judge on hindsight, we've been unacceptable in all of the last 7-8 years so it's hard to argue that his negativity wasn't warranted.
There's nothing constructive to offer, honestly. It's desperately looking for a silver lining. The crap players will be crap. Fans are optimists quoting the rare exceptions in Evra and Vidic who were great after a terrible 6 months but in general, the crap players have never improved. Fans are in reality quoting lottery tickets as examples why why being positive and constructive about a player is the right thing to do. Fans being optimistic is fine but since we're discussing pundits, there's nothing wrong imo is Scholes lack of optimism because it seems clear to me that his skepticism is often warranted.

FFS of course we've been unacceptable because we're comparing it to the most successful period an English team has ever had. There's levels to it though isn't there, Scholes and yourself are miserable because we're not dominant. Until this last few years I've always had hope that we'd strike gold or find a spark - that's how football used to be. But the reality is now it's about squad building, packing talent and tactics - things we have failed at all ends up.dozer wrote: ↑10 months agoWe've been good in the last 7-8 years. The real misery for me started when things when south for Ole and then we maxed out the credit card on signings for Ten Hag that simply had to work. That fucked us in a different way that will hinder is for years yet. Before that, there was always a chance that things click. I'll admit I'm old school in that respect but there are 100s more examples than the two you've cited of players that jump a level in a short period of time or a new manager/new formation makes them look class. That is still true to some extent and is one of the reasons we're failing now.
Neville has piped up about the final, spreading misery like the rest of them.

I don't think I've ever read such a wave of doom and gloom before a final. It's ok to not be that confident, as we are shit, but the entire coverage is pretty much "this will be an awful game between two terrible teams that shouldn't even get CL football because they're an embarrassment, oh and even though Spurs are worse, United are actually worse because they should never be in this position anyway so we're going to anoint Spurs the moral victor before the final".
Like I've posted a few times now, it's going to be fucking hilarious if we win

Neville talking shit
Wouldn't it be nice to have just one voice being constructive and pleasant about us? Not deluded or owt, just saying where we need to improve without the hyperbole.
I guess we are just always the biggest ticket in town so if the story is "United are shit', they will always find ways to fill every page with a new reason why. Like maybe I only get fed what the internet wants me to see but I've seen maybe 1-2 days coverage of Liverpool's title, then everyone switched back to "United are shit" again. Even the dramatic games against Lyon and Bilbao were mostly covered as "how has this shit, undeserving bunch of cunts managed this?".
Oh shit, sorry. I didn't see your post. My bad.Felwin wrote: ↑9 months agoAye, that's what I was getting at earlier.sheesh wrote: ↑9 months ago https://x.com/UtdXclusive/status/192257 ... GxdPQ&s=19

I used to think Neville was going out of his way to be impartial but I think he gets a kick out of us losing. Scholes is the same.
Maybe they don't want anyone touching their legacy? That's the only thing I can think of. It's very weird.
I think a lot of it with Neville is that he's become so media savvy that he knows exactly what will get the clicks. Rather than talk about how we've shown fight in the Europa and that with Amad back, we almost have our strongest team for the final, he knows it will get him more attention to talk about how Spurs are apparently better even though they're below us in the league and only had to play shite in the Europa.sheesh wrote: ↑9 months agoOh shit, sorry. This, definitely. I do also think some of the ex United players are hurting. They gave the club their best years and it's turned to absolute shit since they left. They're fans like the rest of us, but they also know the club from the inside, and that's gonna make it hurt even more.Felwin wrote: ↑9 months agoI think a lot of it with Neville is that he's become so media savvy that he knows exactly what will get the clicks.
