Ugarte struggled. I'm not convinced at all by him. I worry about the midfield too. I'm starting to think it's an even bigger priority than the 9 but I'm assuming we won't/can't go big in that area until Casemiro leaves next summer.Felwin wrote: ↑6 months ago From what I've read, Ugarte was abysmal again and Mainoo has a lot of work to do. I know things are heating up with Sesko, but I think we'll get rolled over by fit teams without a new midfielder. I get that Cunha and Mbeumo dropping in should help but any half-decent team will just press Ugarte, then we're fucked. IMO, he's only useful when we want someone to get stuck in and play it long, but then we need a striker who can make it stick. Will that be Sesko?

Just to add, Joao Paulinha is apparently going to Spurs on loan. We should've been all over that.

Yeah I get that. Wingbacks are wingers when the team is good and can assert itself on others. We're still a bit shit. Like you say, without a powerful aggressive midfield - and probably a better defence and a better keeper - we won't be controlling many games so Amad will spend most of his time pinned back in his own half defending. And that's a major waste of his talents.JoelfuckingGlazer wrote: ↑6 months agoYeah he was at wingback. Now I'm not sure about that one. People who seem to know Amorims style are basically saying the wing backs are wingers, not full backs, and we haven't really seen his style in force as yet. Let's see how it pans out.Fuck the Glazers wrote: ↑6 months agoIs he still playing Amad at wingback?JoelfuckingGlazer wrote: ↑6 months ago Our poorest performance of the tour. Shaky in defence and sloppy in possession, though we did have 2 or 3 really slick moves from back to front - case in point, the move that led to the penalty.
Still a lot of work to do, and we still need a couple of signings. Striker, midfield, keeper.
He's our best most profitable attacking player so should be played in his best position IMO. Managers always do that to the best player; get em covering positions so they can fill a hole. But it makes them less effective at their main job.
I worry about midfield. As much as we need that striker, I think we need a midfielder more. We're still lacking physicality and real, top technical ability in those 6 positions.
There was a link a few weeks back. Can only assume he prefers London as he would've been perfect. Closest thing to Keano I've seen since he retired.JoelfuckingGlazer wrote: ↑6 months ago Just to add, Joao Paulinha is apparently going to Spurs on loan. We should've been all over that.

My worry with him is that he's 30 and hasn't done particularly well at Bayern in his first season. Would he just be another Casemiro and what we really need is a longer term fix.Felwin wrote: ↑6 months agoThere was a link a few weeks back. Watching the Fiorentina game. We're still utterly shite at playing out from the back. That's a worry, because as much as we've strengthened the front line, if we're always fucking up and on the back foot, we're not going to get them in games enough.

You can see the issue in midfield, as soon as we fix that we’ll see a big difference. What I am loving is the runs both cunha and Mbeumo are making and how we are using that to bypass the high press from Fiorentina.

Probably end up playing on the counter like we have done for years.JoelfuckingGlazer wrote: ↑6 months ago Watching the Fiorentina game. We're still utterly shite at playing out from the back. No injuries, and played some neat stuff.
Still some slack passing from the back that needs to improve.
Mount gave a good showing, and Hojlund not featuring pretty much would indicate the chances of him staying are low to zero.
One proper cm would really improve us alot, but there is progress there.
The real test will be next weekend though.
