As I said at the beginning of the thread, I was actually looking forward to a game for once. Whatever the result, it hasn't disappointed. It's been like watching a United game again instead of some miserable, strait-jacketed wank
Couldn't agree more. Just hope the Brighton game isn't too soon while they're still adjusting,

We've been shit defensively.
We couldn't beat a 19th placed team. Our subs showed our lack of quality. Zirkzee and Mainoo hopefully won't be subbed on for a long time.
We weren't bad defensively tonight. 1 freak goal, 1 really good goal with a very slight mistake from the left side of defence. Generally, we were tight, solid and Lammens had little to do.

We've created much, much more and 9 times out of 10 that games a comfortable win based on that performance

Mainoo hardly played this season.
Don't talk sense please.

Hyperbole from dozer to be expected. I thought he looked fine tonight, one silly decision to shoot at the end.

He was brave, demanded the ball, some quick interchange passes, took players on the turn, driving runs.

For a player who hasn't featured and is back from injury, I thought he looked ok.

Plus tim sherwood is a cunt on sky sports here.

Him amd redknapp, what a combo

Hang on, and we're 4th tonight. Instead we're 7th. And with next 2 games against City and Arsenal....

You're lowering the bar for Mainoo. He was poor. It's easy to say give opportunities when it's also easy to call for the manager's head when the results don't come. A manager playing a lot of kids but with shit results will be hounded out by the fans just like they would if he played seniors and got shit results.

Pep summed it up well when he said managers are hired for their ideas and fired for their results.

Mainoo is responsible for probably the greatest moment post Fergie in beating our cross-city sports washed rivals with local lads - the United way. Since then he's been injured, sidelined by Amorim's system, still popped up with an amazing moment last year, injured again, told he was a backup for someone who basically never misses a game, refused a loan, comes back for 15 minutes after another injury and because we're all not jumping on him for being shit, apparently the bar has been lowered.

For someone who bangs on about the rags and other fans being reactionary, Dozey, you are the most reactionary fan on here.

I'm glad Mainoo will be reintegrated. It's what we should be all about. Not sure if the sky is the limit for him as some hope, but all he needs to be is competent to succeed right now. The rest comes from having a proper season in the first team squad and not nearly two years of being fucked about.

He's not been sidelined. He's been objectively poor.
Firstly it's not just about what you do in possession. He's been very poor when we don't have the ball. He's been good when our team (not him) has possession - he gets into spaces where he can receive the ball and move it forward. But when the opposition has the ball, he's almost a liability.

In his last few games, his performances with the ball have dropped too. You can perhaps associate that to rustiness because of lack of opportunities. But his poor work rate and poor intuition when the opposition has possession isn't linked to that.

I don't think Mainoo is poor in possession at all - though he was understandably rusty last night.

He was completely mis profiled by Amorim - he doesn't have the mobility or profile to play in a 2. Never in a million years. He's tailor made for being an 8 in a midfield 3. Stick a mobile destroyer behind him, and a quality 10 in front, he'll be dynamite because he's technically fantastic.

These are excuses Pogba had. He's a specialist, he needs top partners, top formations etc.
Like Bruno, he has to play well on his own merit and he's not done that this season or the last.

I didn't say he needs top players Dozer - though they don't half help. I'm talking about playing him in a properly profiled role. He works well in a 3, he doesn't in a 2, and certainly not in the way Amorim played him.
