Scholes and Butt doubling down on the stick they're giving the likes of Martinez. I think they're reading the room wrong on this one, they're going too far. Some of our ex players are a real problem nowadays.

Definitely. To say "it's tongue in cheek" is a cop out. Why couldn't they just say I got it wrong.

The other shit thing is they didn't do their research. Haaland has scored one goal in six games against Martinez. Martinez won all of his ground tackles and headers in that game too.

It's lazy punditry and it made them look like dicks. It'll make em look like cunts if they carry on.

Honestly already think they look like cunts now. They can't stand giving up the misery circus because it makes them so much money.

Dunno if any of you lot listen to Talk of the Devils too, but Andy Mitten always talks about how his phone is 10 times busier looking for quotes and dirt after a United defeat than after a victory. Obviously a clichee to say victory and winning silences critics, but these cunts are showing that they'll find a way anyway. Too much riding on it. A whole media ecosystem has popped up reliant on us being shit and unfortunately it will probably need 100s more performances like Martinez on Saturday to kill that ecosystem.

Its 'blokes down the pub' kind of rhetoric. But you don't have that sort of defence, when you're on a public platform and speaking as legends of the club. Its toxic. I also think they've completely misread what Martinez said, which I took to mean 'criticism is fair game, just make sure you only say what you'd be prepared to say to my face and I'm happy to give you that opportunity', rather than inviting a set-to. Also Keane, who's probably my all time favourite United player, talking about how Carrick would 'probably have his wife doing the team talk' is bang out of order.

I think the club now has a chance to circle the wagons and block direct interaction with some of these players. They need to send a message. We've been a lightning rod for media slander for far too long, and they club needs to deal with it head on.

4 games in, and there's not a thing he could've more really, is there? Its been an excellent start, and the game away to West Ham is now another proper test as they've picked up.

I saw a Podcast which critiqued Carrick's start, very positively (obviously). It spoke to how much of what he's done might seem simple and about returning to basics, round pegs in round holes etc, but it cited a level of tactical acumen that maybe he isn't getting credit for. I missed it in real time but you can see it in the highlights - against Spurs he moved Mbuemo from being a central striker to playing him on the left and put Cunha as a false 9 down the middle, combining with Bruno. A subtle shift but it shows he's got depth to how he (and his coaching team) plan for games.

There's so much to credit him for in such a short space of time. He's brough the 'feel' of a United side back, and all the talk of training being shorter, more intense and much more focused on ball work is really coming through with how you see us play in small spaces to escape the press then hit a switch.

Whether he keeps the job or not, he's set the model for what the United manager needs to do.

Can’t knock anything. It’s not just the results, obviously they’re great after 18 months of dour, drab “give us time” from Amorim but it’s the manner of the victories. We’ve been the dominant side in some games, we’ve shown resolve when behind, we’ve shown some resilience and a bit of the old United by scoring late.

It remains very early days but it’s a positive start.

Completely agree.

Every bone in my body is telling me it's all somehow a scam and we're still shit and will still start losing meekly again, but making it feel like United counts for so much. Imagine how much better the last 10 years would've felt if we'd been playing like this most of the time.

It's unrealistic to expect us to compete for titles every year, but giving it a bash, playing on the front foot and promoting youth, those things should be constant. Like Barca and Ajax will sack managers if they can't have 60%+ possession every game, Bayern and Real will sack managers if they aren't keeping the silverware flowing, even fucking West Ham sacked Moyes even though he won them a trophy because the football was uninspiring, these need to be the foundational things we judge our managers on. If there are too many sideways passes, too much sitting off, no youth players being promoted, sack the cunt. Granted, for it to actually win us trophies, we need good players too, but even competent players with a bit of attitude will get you most of the way there if you attack and try and intimidate the opposition.

Feel I bring up Big Ron a lot, but it's the first era I can remember and what stands out is that although we weren't always amazing in terms of results, there was a swagger and defiance about us that from all accounts Busby fostered too and of course we all know what Fergie did. That has to be the blueprint. No mucking about with exotic systems, normal stuff, play with courage and attitude, then the coach delegates the fancy stuff like analysis and marginal gains.

Carrick will be making Ratcliffe, the board and Berrada rethink the massive rebuild we apparently need. Going with a highly sought after technical coach and believing his bullshit about needing to suffer, possibly needing to be relegated, and not being able to play half decent football because the tools he was working with were so shit - only for the Boro manager to show him how good this squad can be, changes everything (providing we don't tank from here on in).

Amorim being shit and a cunt, and Carrick going back to basics and just getting what United is cos he learned under Fergie, has given us all a much clearer idea of how United are meant to play football.

Tbf we're probably also seeing the impact of the new expertise Ineos have employed. They've literally changed everything behind the scenes; processes, personel - the lot. So the open heart surgery has taken place and maybe we're seeing the benefit now. I certainly think the quality of signings has improved despite being broke and despite being shit.
