I've split this into a new topic, Sid, as it makes sense to do so

The next sacrificial lamb steps up to the oche

I think we're going to struggle to unlearn playing with so many defenders, might mean we concede 1-2 a game for a bit. Might almost be prudent to use Amorim's system for the next two games to give them more support. It would also allow Mbeumo, Amad and Cunha to start, as we'll need them on the break.

His first couple of games are against City and Arsenal
I expect us to play better because the players decide when they want to turn up and play with commitment.

Probably the right decision.
I was worried that picking Ole would be a mistake.

It would have been really hard on Ole if the team were still shit as well. The bounce we had before was fucking brilliant. Unrivalled. But I don't think it would have happened that way again. The team are vulnerable, caught in two styles.

It would have just sent the wrong message to the players and the fans... but also to Ole, i.e. "You did ok and then it went a bit pear-shaped so we sacked you. Then we've pissed our way through 3 other managers, not including caretakers, but please come back as all is forgiven."

Sure, in retrospect, it was better under Ole than anyone since (at least until the wheels came off) but we shouldn't forget that Carrick was the top rung of his coaching staff.

I like the idea of Holland coming in as an assistant. He's worked with some top managers, like Hiddink and Mourinho. Conte too, I think.

Jonathan Woodgate is also in the backroom staff, which is interesting. I wonder what he will bring.

Woodgate was a quality defender, so hopefully he can get a tune out of the useless cunts we have at the back.

Added to which, they had something to bounce from when Ole took over, because they were all seriously fucked off working under Jose. They seemed to like Amorim, overall, and morale didn’t seem a problem.

What the team need short term is clear, effective coaching and tactical deployment. But what’s needed much more so, is quality recruitment. Which we can’t afford. So we’re basically fucked.

I was listening to one of the better online podcasts who was relaying a conversation that they’d had with a former player, who in turn relayed that Wilcox view in the summer was that we were ‘really close’ to competing at the top, and that we were ‘only a couple of players away’. As well as being potless, I worry that there’s serious delusion as to the quality of the squad. It needs at least 2-3 adding to what we’ve got just to become a top 4 side, and to stay a top 4 side playing and competing in multiple conversations, we probably need 6 or 7 adding to what we’ve currently got.
