They were bought by the Saudi Public Investment Fund and while I’m no economist, Investment Funds will want a return on investment. They had a Carabobbins Cup win but let’s be honest, that’s not going to bring in the money they’d want to see. They’ve had, what, a year or two in the Champions League but without that as well, I suspect they’re calling their money in via player sales.

PIF isnt a real investment fund in traditional terms, compared to likes of clear lake at chelsea. Its more of a slush fund to "invest" money as they see fit to boost the global image of Saudi Arabia. Making money back isn't the main driver, sportswashing is.

Yeah, I think the more likely scenario is that they thought they'd simply be able to replicate what City have done. What they overlooked was the need to completely bollocks off FFP, cheat like fuck, lawyer up, pressure the government and just crack on.

They breached Uefa's financial rules and accepted a 3 year settlement. Being outside of Europe too has pretty much forced them to sell before buying. It seems to have led to a complete pivot in their footballing model towards buying young talkents and aiming for future resale value. If they sell Hall, and start with a team full of young players with no Prem experience plus a manager from the Saudi League - it sounds risky as hell to me.

Mitten is saying that Hall wants United but the price will be the problem. Was the same with Fernandes and Anderson who both wanted to come to us but we refused to match the bids from Spurs and Abu Dhabi.

A couple of younguns have been flying under the radar as well. David Eze and Karim Cassim are coming from City's Academy into our U18s and Isaac Konde at Liverpool should be joining too. Eze in particular has rave reviews and City are annoyed to lose him.

Still nowhere near certain these kids ever play first team football for us like, but we've tended to rely on our academy bringing players up rather than poaching in recent years. Really feels like we've changed tack and are offering the lads a proper route to the top plus leaning on it being what we've been about historically. Even kids born in 2010 know that youth players get special treatment with us. Look at Januzaj, Rashford, Lingard, Garnacho (maybe Lacey and Gabriel next). We''ll give you a fair crack at it, the fans will adore you and having that on your CV will secure your career. Even Ravel Morrison has had a solid career and earnt his way (currently playing in the UAE) after being by all accounts a bit of a nobhead and falling out with Fergie.

On actual price, I think we'd push the boat out for hall. Young, English, prem proven - he'd be the left back for 10 years. I think we'd go to 70m.
