Anyway, I'd like to know how much dosh we have to spend if we get CL football. See what's feasible. Two first teamers would be mint. It might not take a lot to become a title challenging team if the quality stays the same next season. The advantages of Pep-ball have largely gone so the league is more even.

I didn't read any of your post, Dozer, I just scrolled down and read "so we need 8 first team players"

You've basically just paraphrased my post above from 3 weeks ago, just with a bit of added Dozer flair by adding a cheeky dig to a fan favourite (Mainoo) and making outrageous expectations by saying we need 8 first teamers.
Live in the real world for a change. We're getting MAX 2 midfielders, MAX 2 FBs and maybe a CB if Maguire refuses. Especially with the prices we're aiming for and no guarantee of income from Rashford or Hojlund. The 2 Mids alone will cost us the better part of £200m if we really want to make a statement, otherwise we'll be gambling on players who aren't ready and/or are potentially over the hill.
This idea that we can operate like Brighton etc. and pluck players out of relative obscurity, expecting them to instantly perform in the pressure cooker that is United AND the PL... like I've been saying for years, it's just plain unrealistic. Ideally the mid-ranked PL clubs are the testing ground for those players where we find out if they're up for it. Finding and poaching potential gems really early like Heaven, Obi etc. could still bare fruit, but first teamers will have to come from either the PL, elite clubs or a league that is as physical as the PL (so basically Ligue 1 and the odd Serie A/Bundesliga team.

The advantages of pep ball have gone not because of pep ball but because he's now got much worse players.Fuck the Glazers wrote: ↑3 months ago I didn't read any of your post, Dozer, I just scrolled down and read "so we need 8 first team players"

I'm not saying we'll buy 8 first team players. But we need 8 players. 7 of those 8 are expected to improve the first team for the reasons I've mentioned. The third midfielder we sign won't.Felwin wrote: ↑3 months ago You've basically just paraphrased my post above from 3 weeks ago, just with a bit of added Dozer flair by adding a cheeky dig to a fan favourite (Mainoo) and making outrageous expectations by saying we need 8 first teamers.

I don't think we'll sign 8 but that doesn't change the fact hat we need 8.
I'm sorry but we have to sell Lisandro and De Ligt for a good price if and when we get the chance. There is hope that we can do this in the summer. We can't plan for a squad when we have so many crocks. We also have to deal with the unknown which is that some of the new signings also could be injury prone.
I know, it's likely that we won't do this, but it's just as likely that we won't be competing for the big trophies anytime soon. City will replace 6/7 of their new signings and they'll be back to dominating the league soon. Suddenly pep ball will be back in vogue and they'll laud his top top tactics.

Honestly we just have to concentrate on improving ourselves and playing football that is fun to watch, we can't worry about not being able to compete with City when they can just drop a billion on an entire new squad. Football might be much more about analysis and strict plays and VAR and transfers etc. these days, but it can still all get thrown up in the air at times too. We need to put ourselves in the best possible position for it to click with 1-2 players or the right manager. If we'd got that right these last 13 years, instead of pissing money on shite players and/or backing the wrong manager with his average players, we might've won a title or two.dozer wrote: ↑3 months agoI'm not saying we'll buy 8 first team players. And if there's one thing that annoys Pep, it's that people don't talk about the tactics enough. And rightly so. It's alright having some apparent genius in charge, but with those resources, a granny could give it a fair whack.
I didn't get that impression at all, although I could be wrong. I've only watched a few of his pressers.
I remember, he said being successful is about having the owner, CEO, Directors and manager being aligned/compatible in their ideas.
He also said you can't compare him to a lot of the managers at struggling clubs because the job is different, budgets are different.
I think his (and Klopp's) superpower is that they don't drink their own kool-aid. I think they know that tactics are secondary. Most managers don't seem to realise this. They think they're supposed to be the messiah who fixes the club, like a hero. You can see that in their interviews - even when they talk about their sacking, they're sniffing their own arses.
Klopp spoke to United prior to joining Liverpool and he realised immediately that he'd tank his career if he worked with those morons. How many managers actually do that? It's almost no-one. That's what makes Pep and Klopp unique. They have the ability to simply use common sense and see if they're compatible - instead of thinking "ooh you cannot say not to United or Real Madrid". That's a good excuse, but for a mediocre manager.

Klopp said that getting shown Carrington by Woodward and the gang was like "fucking Disneyland". They talked about it like it was this magical place where trophies just fall from the sky.dozer wrote: ↑3 months agoI didn't get that impression at all, although I could be wrong. The damage they did to the club is unbelievable when you think about it. A lot of it is Fergie's fault too, a lot just the strain of following him, but having a bunch of arrogant financiers running the show who are used to showing potential partners a swanky complex and sealing the deal turned us into a mockery.
United are reportedly in "advanced talks" to sign Bruno Guimares, although Real Madrid are also interested
Could well be bollocks but let's see

Yeah, he looks alright from whatever I've seen of him. But there have been rumours around Sandro Tonali leaving as well. Newcastle won't sell both players, surely .Fuck the Glazers wrote: ↑3 months agoIs he any good?sheesh wrote: ↑3 months ago United are reportedly in "advanced talks" to sign Bruno Guimares, although Real Madrid are also interested

If we do sign Bruno or Sandro, either one would fit into that bracket of proven Premier league performer that Ineos seem to like. So you'd think they will settle quite quickly.
I trust the judgment of Vivell, Wilcox, etc, whoever we get. They did well last summer.
