The control that midfield would offer would be awesome.
It's definitely a big change from what we've had, but also a big change from what has worked for the top clubs in recent years. You're almost guaranteed a physical battle in the centre of the park, not only with pressing and duels but with the opposition running you into the ground. Part of me can't wait to see some silky passing that we've missed for what feels like decades now tbf, but surely the physical profiles aren't what you want for a 50-game season, what with all the injuries, minutes in the tank and natural weaknesses in that quartet (+ Mount)

Aerial weakness is also exacerbated by Martinez probably being a starting CB (until he's inevitably injured). He might have pocketed Haaland a couple of times through his intensity, but he loses duels every game if we're being honest.
Thats why it would be a bold approach. Carrick and the data department are fully aware of the recent uptick in EPL physicality, but they would be saying, inspite of that we think we can make this work tactically. The best team in Europe (PSG) is the benchmark, of which Carrick said:
Of course they're winning, but it's the way they play that really stands out. The midfield rotations, the constant connections, the quick, short passing… it's exactly the kind of football I enjoy.
So it would be a midfield in Carricks image as a player, and would have a distinct identity.

Trends change, maybe it will be ahead of the curve?

As an aside from his injury record, Martinez isn't an elite PL level defender. I agree, we get dominated aerially - the last few title winning sides, whether that be City or Arsenal, have essentially had CBs at full back. Ake, White, Hincapie, Timber.

Maybe this is why he took a look at Yoro at RB?

Perhaps with Tielemans and Santos in midfield, Martinez' passing becomes less important and a defensive monster should be prioritised in his place.

Man City in advanced talks to sign Bouaddi for £85m

That would take their spending to 687m in 18 months

16 new players

They're taking the piss out of the authorities and us fans.

I don't care how many players they've reportedly sold. I don't trust the figures for players sold either. They're cooking the books all round.

Only City sell reserve players that hardly play or don't play at all for 15-45m. It should prompt an investigation - especially considering they've been found guilty of two major rule breaches before and are currently under investigation.

tbf, they've moved on a fair few players too and for decent money. That's not to excuse the blatant piss taking but that'll be a 'plausible' explanation.

The figures are bollocks. Is that what's really being paid by the clubs?

Trafford made 17 appearances for City - just 4 in the league - and was sold for 45m

Countless other City players who've barely played or not played - and who've played and failed - go for big money

Is 45m the final cost over the amortised deal? Are City/UAE throwing anything else in with the deal? Shares? First dibs on City players? An agreement to make off the book payments for players City might buy from them in the future?

Given that City can't spend colossal amounts without selling big, and the fact they're proven cheats, none of us should believe they've gone legit. Like in any business, these figures are consistently bizarre.

There’s something not right somewhere that they’re doing £300m+ every calendar year. I’m at the point where I’m losing interest in it all and I’m trying to enjoy football and United for the things that got me excited as a kid - the click of the turnstile, the smell of fried onions, watching United. I’m trying to be less cynical about the governance of the sport at all levels and how little they seem to care about city’s charges and ever having them punished one way or another.

Apathy isn’t good, I know, but what else is there?

BBC reporting City are also perusing Enzo Fernandez. Ornstein said Chelsea will only accept 120m.

If they sign Enzo as well, City will have spent 807m in 18 months. Nothing to see here!

After Bouaddi, City's net spend over 18 months is £450M.

Re: The accusation that their sales are dodgy, I'm not so sure. They manage to get very high fees for their academy players but we tend to forget about the many sales or frees that they have moved on also:

Free Transfers:

De Bruyne
B Silva
Gundogan
J Stones
Aguero
Fernandinho
D Silva
Kompany

Cancelo £21M
Laporte £23.5M
Ederson & Ake £17M combined
Kalvin Phillips £45M
G Jesus £45M
Sterling £47.5M
