The Mateus Fernandes links and chatter remind me a lot of the Cunha stuff last year. Think we might already be fairly advanced and he'll be announced as our first signing.

Not seen much myself but he's very highly regarded and we seem the only team in for him. Think the portuguese connection might be helping there.

West Ham paid £38m for him so they probably want north of £60m.

No idea if it's even possible, but M.Fernandes, Baleba and Wharton all seem eminently doable and then we'd have variety, PL experience and youth and we'd still have Kobbie who could be the best of the lot.

Anderson, Tonali and Tchouameni on the other hand would all be much more expensive and the second two smell a bit like shit signings of the past to me. Although, with Pep leaving, does Ando suddenly think "hang on, this wasn't what I was looking forward to".

How worried should we be that Fernandes was relegated with Southampton and he's about to be relegated the year after with West Ham? Haven't seen much of him.

Alex Scott is the one I like. Cracking player. And I think we'll be in for Baleba.

M Fernandes looks good from what I’ve seen of him. He seems to have a well rounded skill set, so could do well as either 6 or 8. I think partnering him with Anderson or Tchouameni would be great, or Baleba if the club still rate him.

Isn't Fernandes going to be too similar to Baleba? He'd be a good pairing with Mainoo and/or Anderson.

Thing with Mainoo is that we need to decide what his best position is. He seems most effective higher up the pitch and so you'd want a proper DM like Fernandes or Tchou behind him. Bruno is the untouchable 3rd midfielder and so there's only so much you can cram in there. But we do need depth and a summer of Fernandes/Baleba + Anderson + Hackney would be great as it'll also allow Kone to get some game time.

Mainoo is proving to be a bit more versatile than we thought. He's been sweeping up and starting counters in recent weeks, as well as getting us up the field.

It's clear we need to be able to control games to make that jump to the next level, as much as playing in the transitions is both more exciting and suits our current players. It feels like we could go for both though next season if we can afford it.

Buy a busy cunt who's better than Ugarte (Baleba or Tchou)
An all round quality lad (probably only Ando, maybe Tonali)
A technical, versatile up and coming player (M.Fernandes maybe Scott)

If we go big on either Tchou or Ando then expect the numbers to be made up by Mount and/or Thwaites/Koné

Sort that out and we'd have ability to control games, move teams around, compete physically and shut the game down if necessary

We have way too many positions to fill to spend the dough on 3 top CMs (Baleba isn't one, but that's a different debate) .
Buy 2 starting midfielders and one cheap young relatively unknown midfielder (transfers like Dorgu, Lammens etc ) or promote a youth teamer.
We have to buy 2 CBs and 2 full backs. We may need to buy more if we can sell Lisandro, Shaw, De Ligt, Maz and Mount. De Ligt most likely can't be sold but I'd rather not consider him as available anyway.

I'm not saying we should get 3 top CMs, I'm outlining what seem to be the options.

2 starters and a relative unknown/youth teamer seems the most probable, most would agree.

Don't expect more than 1 CB this summer. Might be prudent to cash in on Martinez as I doubt he's getting a new contract. But even if the quality isn't top end, Maguire, Heaven and Yoro with Maz as backup means 1 CB is sensible. 2 would mean giving up on either Yoro or Heaven or both and we're not there yet.

FB is a weird one. Dorgu should be the starting LB but Shaw provides his best moments when he's consistently available. Amass and the Paraguayan lad (can't remember his name) might be blooded in. I think RB might be more likely to get an upgrade, Dalot's availability means he'd be a great backup and we also have Maz to cover across the back. It'd be great to get 2 FBs but I'd expect 1 max tbf. 2-3 CMs a winger and a CB are further up in priority.

We also need another striker regardless of whether Zirkzee stays or not, as Chido isn't ready and we don't have any other options. For me it's a failed experiment to play either Cunha or Mbeumo as a striker.

Jesus. I forgot about Yoro. He's become more irrelevant over time. I know he's young but he's almost a flagship signing - we paid 59m I think all inclusive. He's on high wages for someone his age as well. He needs to come good next season or be moved on. We can't treat him like a regular youngster.

But yes, I guess 1 CB will do for now.
And like fatty said, we need a striker. Not some youngling - he needs to be real competition for Sesko.

This window will be our best opportunity to sell Shaw for a half decent fee. He's injured most of the time and he will have more games per week next season so I expect a recurrence. His stock is pretty high. We probably can't sell De Ligt now.
