In August Rant declared the upcoming campaign as a last chance for Manchester United’s Brazilian youngster Anderson. How the former-Porto midfielder has responded in recent weeks with some outstanding performances in midfield, so says United manager Sir Alex Ferguson of the 21-year-old who cost £14 million in 2007.
“Midfield is the hardest area for our young players to progress because we have some excellent players operating in that department,” Ferguson told ManUtd.com.
“But Anderson has certainly cranked up the contest for places after hitting great form. He took his time – he’s only 21, remember! – but he has settled and matured.
“The competition has not dimmed his self-belief, which is important. He has a Brazilian belief in his own ability and he is going to become a top player.
“He is flying at the moment and he certainly wants to play. In fact, he has a face on him like a bag of tripe when I don’t play him.”
Im sorry but I don’t agree at all. Central midfiels is probably our weakest position when all the defenders are fit, and anderson really needs to start giving the manager
no choice but to pick him every game. He doesn’t have consistancy, he relishes big games, he outplayed fabregas 10 to 1 everytime he plays for us against arsenal but it’s not enough. 9 games out of every 10 he plays can pass by without him contributing a single thing. He has never been the same since he broke his leg just before he moved to us. His brazilian flair and willingness to get forward and run with the ball have never been shown in his time at united, not to mention his shooting ability. Andersons developement is going to need a serious boost, and quickly if he is to be a long term man utd first team player
Hard to disagree with jezz. I see glimpses and hope this it is his coming of age but he’s just not hammering down the door demanding a start in the side. Maybe it will just take time like darren fletcher….the immense darren fletcher as he is becoming.
have you two actually seen what he does off the ball?
