If you think Manchester United’s debt-loving, leveraged-buyout wielding, club ruining owners are bad, think again. It could be worse, they could be Scouse! Liverpool’s owners, hated almost as much as United’s, have taken to abusing the club’s supporters over email. The result: Tom Hick’s Jnr. has resigned as a Director at Anfield today.
The email exchange, initiated by a Liverpool fan Stephen Horner over the weekend, goes something like this:
Horner: “Aah-eh, Corksucker, gizzajob, la?”
Hicks: “You’re an idiot.”
Horner: “Shut yer gob an’ ger on with yer knitting.”
Hicks: “Blow me f*ck face. Go to hell. I’m sick of you.”
Sunday, The Spirit of Shankly (SOS), a so-called supporters’ union that is committed to the removal of owners Tom Hicks Sr. and George Gillett, released a statement demanding the immediate resignation of Hicks Jr.
“Is this what the club has come to, that a board member can speak in such derogatory terms to a supporter but can go without censure or any public criticism? The conspiracy of silence which has followed this unsavoury incident is totally unbecoming of a club which has always prided itself on its relationship with the fans,” whinged James McKenna, a spokesman for SOS, in The Times.
SOS got that wish today with Hicks’ resignation. Funny then that nobody from SOS chose to resign when their end-of-season party descended into a disgraceful rendition of a Munich song. Instead, SOS chose to blame the incident on “organisational issues” and “non-members.”
Tom, on this issue, we’re with you brother. SOS can blow us all.
