Between £5 – £8 million will flow into the Glazers’ financial black hole when Serbian winger Zoran Tošić is sold today Russian outfit CSKA Moscow. Tošić, who spent much of last season on loan at Cologne in the Bundesliga, joined Manchester United in a £17 million deal alongside fellow Serb Adem Ljajić 18 months ago.
United pulled the plug on the £10 million Ljajić deal in January claiming work permit problems, while Tošić’s move to CSKA will see the club make a return on its initial investment.
Although Tošić has stated a preference to remain in Germany, financial considerations almost certainly dictated that a move to the Bundesliga – save for a late bid from Bayern Munich that did not arrive – was not viable. CSKA, incredibly still backed by the Russian Ministry of Defense, have no problem meeting United’s fee or the player’s financial demands.
Tošić, 23, made just five substitute appearances for United in his time at the club, with United taking a £3 million loss on the player.
“We made him an offer to stay,” said Cologne director Michael Meier.
“But the sums of money put before him make it hard for any German club to compete. But, in the end, there are only winners in the deal.
“We stayed in the league thanks to Tošić, Zoran was able to show his form and is at the World Cup and Manchester United can achieve their asking price.”
Another player on the move – on loan at least – is Senegalese striker Mame Biram Diouf, who has failed to make an impact at the club since his arrival from Norwegian side Molde in January. Injury, competition for places and time required to settle in a new country have limited Diouf’s first team chances to just five appearances, scoring once against Burnley at Old Trafford in January.
With Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov, Michael Owen, Federico Macheda, Danny Wellbeck and new signing Javier Hernandéz on United’s books, Sir Alex Ferguson has plenty of forward options for the new season. The Daily Star reports Birmingham City and Bolton Wanderers interested in taking the 22-year-old forward on loan for the season.
Other players set to leave on loan this summer are the aforementioned Wellbeck, who may return with Matt James to Preston North End, and French winger Gabriel Obertan who is heavily linked with a short-term move to Glasgow Rangers.
A slew of other fringe and youth players will also leave on loan in the coming season.
Sad, we never got a chance to see him play! I hope the others’ are just loan deals, don’t want to lose out on our younger players while our older slower players are getting games!
Hopefully Diouf will be back.
Sadly for Tosic and Diouf, and good luck to both of you… I’m afraid to say that, however, at Old-trafford, we need better quality than you guys.
Macheda and Wellbeck are only good enough for super sub role, and with Berbatov’s form since he arrived is very much poor and below United expectation, SAF need to bring in 1 top class striker to partner Rooney up-front. (Benzema and Dzeko are the 2 best possible options).
United also need to bring in 1 top class attacking midfielder to control and create the game, as Paul Scholes getting older and older (infact, this could be his last season). Mesut Ozil is the right answer as he’s young, talented, skillful, and very quick. His creative thinking in modern attacking play will be a big plua for United. Ozil’s contract at W. Bremen is nearly finish, so this is a good time to sing him (United can let him wear the No. 7 shirt and he will be a big hit).
If United don’t have enough money, we can let some players leave and gain some money back…

I am sure you mean well but people like you have their heads so far up fergie backside you have lost all connection to reality. How can you judge Tosic and Diouf when they have not been given any serious opportunity to play yet waste of spaces like Crapstick, Fletcher, Owen, neville, O’shit and Park play game after game.
Fergie has lost the plot tolttaly, he keeps bringing in these brilliantly talented youngsters wants them to rot in reserves and people like you turn up and say we need better players than them. Have you bloody seen what Tosic did for Cologne? How many players you know can perform those skills, have that control and have that magic left foot?????????
Only a few months ago people like you were filling these blogs with Nani hate messages and now he is the best thing since sliced bread!!!!
Utd have some serious amount of young talent (I’ll give that much to the old git) but he is wasting! Nani has servived – just, Tosic is gone, anderson next, than Macheda and Welbeck!
Wake up take your head out of Fergie’s backside and get some fresh air!
@ SAF
I agree, we can’t judge Diouf and Tosic as they haven’t really had the chance to prove themselves. But calling Fletcher a waste of space?? And claiming that Fergie has lost the plot totally?? You probably think we should have hired Rafa, and let him nurture our prospects.
You’re a joke, SAF.
In Fergie we trust!
@ saf my god your clueless, oshea, fletch, nev and park are fantastic players and owen has a proven record, ferguson always gets it right and if he felt zoran werent gona make it, then he wasnt so atleast we got the 8m back that we spent on him. Ando, wel & kiko wouldnt go anywhere so pull ya head out ya arse, our team will be flooded with the kids in a yr and two and watch us win it all with them. diouf, chicharito, keane, pogba & cleverley to name a few wil b stars.
