Wayne Rooney is the ‘killer’ Manchester United needs to fire the club towards Premier league glory. So says United’s left-back Patrice Evra, on the day that Rooney picked up the Barclays player of the month award for January. Rooney also picked up a special gong for reaching 20 Premier League goals this campaign.
“Wayne understands what the team needs and we’re seeing what a great player he is,” said Evra told the Manchester Evening News.
“He is a world class player and is getting his just deserts because now he is more mature, he concentrates more on staying around the box.
“He’s not lost any desire to still press the ball and things like that, but now he knows he needs to score a lot of goals because Ronny has gone and he needs to score more.
“He’s changed his mentality. Now he wants to score, he wants to be a killer and that is very important for us.”
Rooney has scored 23 goals in all competitions this season – 21 in the Premier League alone.
