Manchester United’s 6-1 defeat to City on Sunday afternoon will live long in the memory for all the wrong reasons. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side committed tactical suicide in a second-half performance that saw the Reds concede five in the worst home defeat for more than 50 years. The disastrous result, called the worst of his career by Ferguson, has media tongues wagging and fan forums packed with predictions of further woe this season.
But what do you think the result means for United…

I vote ‘what thrashing?’, or would if my phone coupled with Spike’s app would let me. I still believe it was a nightmare I am yet to wake up from.
Seriously, of course, I hope against hope that it is a blip.
It has been said so many times already, and of course will again, but if SAF doesn’t accept that our midfield just isn’t good enough, not just after that game, but the Liverpool one before it, and indeed a good deal of the last couple of seasons, then he is deluding himself and the fans, and the only way us down. Fuck the Glazers, fuck Gill and, dare I say it, fuck Fergie if he continues to think that this shit is acceptable for United, because it really, really isn’t.

I think you need a reminder of who Sir Alex Ferguson is !!! The reason most of us are United fans is because of him. He is the one who brought United to the top of world football. We have always come out of crysis stronger and as long as SAF is here, i do not worry because we will get that 20th !!!!!
It’s a cross between “Blip” – the number of goals shipped and the margin of City’s victory – and (a category you didn’t provide) “Long Overdue”. The signs indicating that United were heading for an embarrassing result have been there for all to see; look at the number of “wake-up calls” United have stumbled through since beating Bolton in week 4.
Unfortunately, having rediscovered last year’s form, United are likely to return to grinding out victories over non-contenders in a style of play excruciatingly similar to last season’s while hoping that City and Cheatski drop points in games one wouldn’t expect them to.
Couldn’t agree more
That gut wrenching feeling in your stomach when you remember the result – SIX fucking one – is horrible
I was pretty much suicidal on Sunday after the match, but after a day to digest the result, as much as I still hate it, there are a couple of silver linings:
– it will have knocked some of the complacency out of some of the players like Ferdinand and Anderson;
– it will likely force Fergie to drop some non-performers…Ferdinand and Anderson again, and Evra;
– it has got the Bitters well and truly going, which will only make it sweeter when we pip them to the post next May!
I am generally as cynical as a Red can be, but I am not overly worried about this provided the boys respond in the coming weeks and months with better performances. For every pundit that’s written us off already, there have been some sensible comments as well…the most sensible I’ve heard is that if United had to play City every week with this current squad, we’d be in trouble, but in reality we will be playing 18 other teams of which about 16 are clearly inferior to us when we’re on our game.
What `Hari- Kari’? Don’t you mean `hara-kiri’ or `seppuku’?
Time though, for a samurai mentality amongst the squad at OT.
Hmm….
– Last season,City had taken down United’s banner.
– Last Sunday,City had taken Utd’s dignity.
– Next May,City to take Utd’s trophy??
RD..It takes defeats and blows ya mobile…5-4-3-2-1…frick, Made in China
Was long over due imho..now suck it up, spit it out and frickin whack em the next time ffs
if its a wakeup call for the players its pointless, a shite player is still a shite player whether they’re complacent or not
if its a wakeup call for fergie then yeah great, but then why haven’t all the other supposed wake up calls worked in the past few years, 4-1 v liverpool, 3-1 at home to chelseas reserves, 3-0 to chelsea, etc
