Sunday’s News of the World claims that Sir Alex Ferguson is now considering a summer exit for the player, who signed a lucrative new contract last autumn. In an echo of Roy Keane’s Old Trafford exit the paper, quoting an unnamed source, says that Rooney has fallen out with his manager over the 25-year-old striker’s apparent criticism of his team-mates.
“Rooney has been moaning about the squad again,” says the paper. “But Sir Alex has told him he should look at himself first before criticising others. Sir Alex is not pleased with the way Rooney has been playing. Relations between Rooney and Ferguson are so strained that it is affecting other players.”
The question is – with Rooney’s form still in the doldrums and locker-room unrest on the cards – should United countenance a summer sale?

I say no, but that’s based on the idea that Rooney wants to stay…
I, sadly, vote yes. If that gives us an extra 45-60 mil to improve the team, then I am for it. Would be sad though. What will I do with my signed jersey?
As I just said in the other thread: since the new year Rooney has 12 starts, 7 goals, and 5 assists. And he’s not even back in top form yet. NoTW is a load of wank.
I wouldn’t want us to sell Rooney.
Frankly I think those stories are bollocks.
And btw,Rooney’s form ain’t that bad if we look at recent games.
I don’t understand why people are obsessed with Rooney’s so called “poor form”?
Anyone who lives in cloud cuckoo land and believes that if we sold Rooney we would get untold millions to spend needs help and being honest if we sell Rooney we will be poorer for it.
I’m not too fond of Rooney at the moment, but if we sold him in the summer we would have another hole in the team to fill. It’s enough that we have to replace VDS and Scholes, and sign a new winger. Keep Rooney for at least another year(if he isn’t too much of a problem in the dressing room)
Sir Alex is way too canny to get rid of Rooney. Not now. Not when there is still life left in the scouser. Ruud, Becks, Keane all left after we had used their best years. Rooney will be made to tow the party line and then allowed to leave.
Does Rooney understand that despite the hype around him he has NOT LED us to the title or Champions League? Ronaldo romped the ’08 season and we were rampant. Rooney was last season but we did not win the title nor make the Champions League final. He and his agent need to get a grip and then after that they might want to move.
Cal has quite nicely summed up my thoughts. I think it is clear the team would be substantially poorer without Rooney, it really would. However he is deluded if he thinks he is anywhere as good as Ronaldo in his pomp or that e has proved himself to be socks handedly carrying the side.
On a related note the return of Antonio Valencia is great news for Rooney and great timing for the team. So long as Nani has developed the wherewithal to play on the left without becoming predictable or throwing a strop then I think we could be onto a winner. still not convinced we’ll win anything this season, though.
Thing is… if Rooney DOES want to leave… would he be worth keeping?
He can be a mouthy cunt at the best of times… if he’s in a foul mood… he’d surely be bad for squad morale… and Ferguson wouldn’t stand for that.
Off – topic; I knew it was too good to be true:
