Manchester United seems to have settled on Atletico Madrid’s David De Gea as Edwin van der Sar’s Old Trafford successor. The brilliant but inexperienced 20-year-old Spaniard could arrive this summer for around € 20 million, although the player is reportedly unsure about such a high profile role this early in a fledgling career.
But with German Manuel Neuer opting for a move to Bayern Munich this summer, Tomasz Kuszack likely to leave the club, and Anders Lindegaard untested at the highest level, who should get the role?

Manuel Almunia
Not gonna give our local lads a chance? Ben Amos, anyone?
De Gea might well turn out to have a ‘dream’ about playing for Real once Casillas gets too long in the tooth.
Rene Adler is the best ‘keeper in Germany AND is a self-confessed United fan. Should we look further than that ? !
De Gea is a risk because of his youth, but surely a risk worth taking. He is destined to be Spain’s number one keeper after Casillas. Playing at Atletico brings its own intense pressure and we shouldn’t underestimate the experience he already has, with all of the high profile matches he has already played in at European level, covering the Champions League, Europa League and the European Super Cup. I have seen a lot of his performances in La Liga, one of my favourites was against Barca at the beginning of the season when he was sensational and kept the scoreline respectable! Even £20 million would be money well spent because he has all the potential to be world class
Who
Only heard of 3 of them
Whoever we sign will be a great shot stopper guaranteed, so all that matters is that they don’t shit themselves
They need to be a cool motherfucker on and off the pitch. Edwin has got style, that’s why he’s a top keeper
We just bought Lindegaard, is he not good enough?
Are we still wasting money like we did with Diouf, Macheda, Obertan and Bebe? Can we hire some decent scouts?
Lets get the midfield fixed. Find me world class midfielders, lets spend that 160 million David Gill says we have in the bank and fix this dreadful midfield.
If Lindegaard is a world class keeper, well lets play him then and use that 20 million they want to spend on De Gea and buy also a replacement for Hardgreaves. Amos can be promoted to second choice keeper or keep Kuszack and take another look at goalkeepers the season after next. If there is money available for players, lets start spending it NOW!
Stekelenburg is tried with the Dutch national team, if I were Fergie i’d sound van der Sar out about him.
I didn’t know Lindegaard was that highly rated. If he is, then I think United would be fine next season with him in goal – at least as fine as they were with Roy Carroll, who was bad, but not so bad that they didn’t get into the champions league. But if Lindegaard’s not the real deal then de Gea et al might be taken by the time Fergie’s found out.
Difficult one with Lindegaard. I’m from Denmark and I haven’t really seen enough of him to conclude whether he’s good enough or not. He played a brilliant international game against portugal and looks to be long-serving Thomas Sørensens replacement in the Denmark goal.
What I do like though is the mentality we’re hearing from him. At least his confident in succeeding at United, and you need that self-belief. Hopefully talent and performance will follow
Shocked to see Buffon excluded from the list Ed!
You never know…
If Buffon can prove his back problems are over, and if he can see himself (and family) settling in the North West of England, then for the price being banded around (£12m), there is no better option.
We are the biggest club in the world. We are Manchester United.
I think Buffon’s probably a bit of a long shot. You’ve already alluded to his chronic back troubles, and £12m for a 33-year old ‘keeper with a history of back injuries in recent years is too much, especially when we’re talking about the prospect of getting a 20-year old for £18m who (assuming he doesn’t buckle under the pressure) could prospectively be United’s number 1 for a good 10-15 years.
Fair point Spud. David De Gea would be around for 15-20 years.
£1m for each year. Not bad eh?
Has he got the balls for OT? No offence to Athletico.
im disgusted this poll doesn’t contain ben foster
I voted for the Dutch goalie because he looks to be a lesser risk than De Gea.
Rui Patricio has suddenly become Manchester United’s number one goal keeping target. How do we know this? Well, none of your usual European tabloid nonsense. No, this comes from the world leaders in football transfer rumours, The Nigerian Daily.com
United scouts apparently Portugal-based scout Toninho Cruz watched the player in last Sunday’s derby against Porto, which was a 3-2 defeat but one in which he accredited himself well. Patricio, 24, is a Portugal international and is regarded as a potential candidate to replace Edwin van der Sar.
Atletico Madrid’s David De Gea was in the picture, but if United are still scouting that tells you how that’s panning out…
I’d be happy with either:
De Gea
Lindegaard
Amos
or
Stecklenburg
Lindegaard
Amos
After that the PIG, Lindegaard and Amos is the next most likely scenario. The latter scenario would see more rotation.
Apparently Van Der Sar gave a rousing half time speech during yesterday’s game
Agree with this. Buffon is class and age does not feature for a keeper. The older the better imo.
Why did we buy Lindegaard if he isn’t going to play? I know he is hurt right now but is not the player Sir Alex thought he was?
Lindegaard is the new no.2.
TK is on his way.
Gordan Banks..oh yea…errrr right, off to www. iwantabumboy.com
Who the fuck is “TK”?
scrabble, pig,kzk
munich say there is no deal in place for neuer
It’s just him, he wants to go there
Do Bayern even need a keeper?
If one of the top European teams put in a bid – Chelsea, United, Barca or Madrid – the cunt would probably go. Not many players would turn that kind of opportunity down. And plus, we can get Van Der Sar to personally give him a ring, and give him style tips.

Is anyone else worried that we’re proper fucked with this goalkeeping situation?
I think there’s some merit in all these stories linking us with with the likes of Neuer, de Gea and Patricio, but that to me only says one thing:
The club are desperate for a ‘keeper and are being systematically rejected by each of them in turn.
We could end up with Steklenburg or even Lindegaard and the Pig fighting it out.
It seems that the order of preference is Neuer, De Gea, Skelenburg. If we get down the Dutchman do you think United might cut their losses and resign Piglet?
It says to me that we’re making fuck of a lot of noise about bringing in a proper keeper, when in fact, it’s just bollocks… and we’ve already signed the only keeper we’re bringing in.
Word on the street is that we’ve made an offer to Atletico for de Gea but the hold up is at the player’s end.
Sheesh – that is indeed the word on the street. Then again word has it we offered only £8m for Lukaku. Oh yeah, and we nearly signed Zidane. And Pele. And Lord Lucan.
Would it surprise anyone if Ferguson begins his Community Shield press conference with the immortal words “Lindegaard is an excellent young ‘keeper. We’re all about young players at this club. We make starts, we don’t buy them….”
