Sir Alex Ferguson dropped Wayne Rooney for Manchester United’s match with West Bromwich Albion. It was the fifth time this season the Scot has left his 24-year-old striker out but Ferguson’s decision to bench Rooney on Saturday was the first time the manager had not blamed the player’s omission on illness or injury.
It opened a window onto the fractious nature of the pair’s relationship. Over the weekend Rooney’s camp widely briefed the media that the player has broken off talks with the club over a new contract and is seeking a move.
But who is to blame for the feud between player and manager: Sir Alex Ferguson for placing Rooney on the bench, or the player for throwing his toys out of the metaphorical pram?

“Over the weekend Rooney’s camp widely briefed the media that the player has broken off talks with the club over a new contract and is seeking a move.”
Is this confirmed?
Stefan – seen all the stories?! Yes, the story comes from influential people in the Rooney camp.
he left him out against everton citing the stick hed receive as the reason, fergie turned rooneys private life, nothing to do with utd, into a utd matter, leaving him out was humiliation, a disgrace, like fergie was punishing him for cheating on his wife, what the fuck has it got to do with utd, this aint twenty years ago and rooneys not a teenage giggs
I too think Fergie humiliated Rooney and leaving him out of games has contributed to his bad form. Time for Fergie to go !
i read a story today about Rooney aiming for one big last payday, earning a much as possible and this being that last opportunity, it makes sense but its the agents that advise the players and plant the seeds, the more he earns, gets sold for, the more they earn.
The role of agents in all this is never really brought to light, i wouldn’t be surprised if they were behind a lot of this.
Who knows what’s gone on behind closed doors
All I know is the Glazers have got to take some responsibility, if he does indeed fuck off
This idea of not offering players a new contract until their last year is far too fucking risky for a top club like ours full of ‘wanted’ players and foreign wimps who don’t like the weather
Also, whoever decided it was a good idea not to offer Wazza a contract before the World Cup is a daft cunt. I said at the time in Ed’s article that it makes sense to get the top players signed up ASAP. Prioritise the cunts FFS before they start giving it the “only god knows where I’ll end up” bollocks
There is only one way in which SAF has managed united you either get in line or get out..Roo is obviously not in the right frame of mind to take on SAF like that..but I know who i trust between the two..
But it hurts to see a player that you have looked upon as your hero turns out to be a cunt…
All this dog shit has allegedly come about because United informed Ingurlund that Rooney was unavailable due to injury, but Rooney argued that he was’nt. And under an international ruling, any national team can request the player takes a fitness test “if the player so requests” in his desire to play and thats what Rooney did. Rooney had been pissed off that he was being left out due to a bogus injury and was aware that his form was poor but he felt the only way he could get his fitness back was to play matches.
I just wish Fergal would fuck off now and let us move on. I’ve had enough of his autocratic style, its fookin borin now.
Let’s see the big picture. SAF is not to blame. The Glazers are not to blame; this is a red herring.
This is not about money for Rooney; it is for his agent. His form has been very poor for 6 months. He is not & never will be a Ronaldo or Messi. He is not United through & through. All the transfer fee WILL be available for SAF to spend. There are two issues:at United under SAF the ethic is “the team is all; individuals are nothing”. The job of SAF is to manage. Rooney accepted this during the goof times. He has not been able to when things went wrong.
his wife,
Form is temporary, class is permanent
He’s no Ronaldo but there is a top, top player there who is worth holding on to if possible
Hence the reason Fergie said “the door is always open”
fergie said he knew rooney was off in august
said nothing
gotta sell the season tickets
eh? wayne went and fucked a prostitute when she was pregnant. how the fuck can she be to blame? he’s got to be a total fucking idiot if he didn’t think there’d be repercussions.
Exactly Knobby. He’s a lying twat.
Its actually Colleen I feel sorry for here. I bet she doesn’t know what’s going on from one day to the other!
Fuck me Bill. Its not the Jeremy fookin Kyle show!
i would have said itis equaly rooney and fergi to blame ntill i heard that rooney had said he wanted to leave in the summer
i cannot understand this at all, what happend back then for rooney to want out?
i always though he would stay for his career and be a united legend, it certainly seemed that way a year or so ago
if he were to join city(which i dont think he will do) it will be a disaster for us.
our best option is sell to madrid for benzema plus cash deal. at least we will get something for rooney instead of paying off the ginger midgets debt
if this had come out from the start and the other players knew vidic wouldn’t have signed the deal
The thick Scouse twat has gone on record and said that he wanted to stay at United for life. The idiots on here defending him would do well to remember this. Look how much of a fool he looks now.
It’s amazing what the lure of the Yankee dollar can do to someone’s loyalty in a sudden about-turn.
Some kind of nuanced combination of multiple factors?
Benzema doesn’t want to come here Tel.
he may have no choice since he’s been cock at the White Trash
notice how Valdano said yesterday that “we have two great strikers at Madrid – Ronaldo and Higuain, who would we replace?” no mention of benzema … that is how low his currency is at at Madreeeeeeeeeeeeeed.
we need to spend the cash on the midfield – go all guns for Sneijder.
The poll should have the options – Fergie, and Sir Alex Ferguson. Only one man to blame here for Rooney’s exit.
Why isnt his agent there an an option?
Rooney is totally over rated anyway. I’m made up he’s leaving.
You would be, ya lanky streak.
Well I’ve never hid my feelings on Rooney and think we’ve seen the best of him. Would be surprised if we got more than £35million for him.
Rooney was a natural Gal… but he got lost somewhere along the way… he could have been very, very special… and at 24, he still could be… but he’s got to get his love for the game back.
He hasn’t been the same since he broke his foot in 2006 against Chelsea, no matter how many goals he scored against Wigan, Hull, and the like last season. Think of the magic moments Ruud, Beckham and Ronaldo gave us – the moments where you went, ‘fuckinell that was special’ – there are loads, now think of similar for Rooney. They are surprisingly few. He scored about 10 goals from outside the box in his whole United career. Completely over-rated and over-hyped by the English media. As I’ve always said, Rooney’s exceptional moments were just that, the exception, not the rule.
No… Rooneys’ exceptional moments all came in the first 2/3 years… and then ???.
But if you look only at those first 2/3 years, you see where the hype came from… he was brilliant, and that’s what everyone was so excited about.
I
ffs
Yes, but he thought he had reached the higher echelons of great players before he actually had. He stopped striving to improve himself in the same way Messi and Ronaldo did. Throw in the boozing and the fags, the ego and the whores and we are well shot of him.
Come on Mate, it wasn’t all his fault… Ferguson using him like a spare part, didn’t help.
His off field dramas can’t be excused… but his footballing talents were undoubtable till Ferguson started fuckin around with him.
If he’d made himself indispensible up front, no way Fergie would have moved him around. Either way, agree or disagree, he’s United’s past.
Bollocks… Rooney was a player to build your team around. Instead, Ferguson built the team and used Rooney where it suited his lame tactics.
I don’t know what to think. For the last six years I’ve looked upon him in same way I looked at keano – I thought & have said several times that he’d never leave United. The fact he is going to leave is strange but not disasterous. We all look through rose tinted glasses as reds but lets not forget he’s not a ‘red’ – he was brought up an Everton fan so he has nowhere near the built in feelings for United that some of our lads do. If he wants to leave because he can see that we are a sinking ship then fair play to him. He’s 25 this month & wants to win as many trophies as possible in next 6/7 years – is he going to do that with us, a club that sells their best players & has no money to replace them? No, he doesn’t want to be another Steven Gerrard playing for a club he loves winning fuck all season after season. To anyone dilluded enough to think that we are team capable of challenging for the title – we’re competing for the two domestic cups this year & we can win them without Rooney anyway.
BUT… if he goes to City then he deserves everything he has coming to him (not money, I mean shit from us). It would make everything I ever thought of him come to nothing. I couldn’t bare to watch dvds of our recent title wins because I couldn’t bare watching him in a United shirt. It would make me feel like the last 6 years were a charade, a lie.
We have only heard one side of the story & I think there is more to it than meets the eye. It is very unlike Fergie to come out so openly & declare something like he did today. The cynical part of me (Caused from being lied to constantly by Fergie about transfer policies) thinks that casting Rooney as the villain gets Utd (Glazers) off the hook – I always said there would be anarchy if we ever sold Rooney but if we sell cos he apparently wants off then that suits the Glazers. Anyone who thinks we’ll see any of the money we get for him is living in cloud cuckoo land. United are now a selling club & will be as long as those rapists have control of us.
So I’m waiting to see if Rooney does want to go to the bitters & I’m waiting to hear what he has to say before condemning him based on the word of someone whose recent honesty rating wouldn’t be that high. If everything Fergie said proves to be right then I’ll hold my hands up. If Rooney goes to City I’ll hate him more than I’ve ever hated a player before. Until all that happens I’ll reserve judgement.
Anyone else heard the rumour that the real reason Rooney is going is because Moyes has been lined up to succeed Fergie “in the very near future” and Rooney feels Moyes will not take the club forward (as well as an adversity to working with his old “mentor”)?
Fucking hell, I hope not
Who the fuck is Moyes, really. Where’s his European Cup winners medal
I hope this is a case of putting 2 & 2 together and getting 5
To be honest Sid… I think Moyes would be a perfect fit, as far as the Glazers are concerned… he’d be a safe choice… plays percentage football, doesn’t make waves, would probably jump at the chance to manage United, and not bring an ego that the Glazers couldn’t control.
I like Moyes, but the thought of him running club, under the Glazers makes me sad.
Correct Alf. As ive already said, he spunked Rooney all over the park to cover up his own misgivings regarding shit tactics and generally players who were not up to it that he’d paid good dollar for. Rooneys 24, has fantastic ability and was our captain in waiting. And boy are we fuckin waiting for one!
Taggart, get this season out the way and fuck off gracefully.
this has got to be the first time a post by galway has made me feel better
Shreak the fat bastard….
voice of fucking reason – but he can turn it around. he is young enough, depends if he is up for it.
Moyes would be my second choice after Mourinho. The only thing that counts against him is his lack of experience at the highest levels of club football. He should be managing a bigger club than Everton, though. His biggest atribute is his resourcefulness.
