Edwin van der Sar has formally announced his retirement, effective May 2010. The legendary Dutchman has played close to 800 matches in his career, and more than 250 for Manchester United. It leaves Sir Alex Ferguson with a key decision to make this summer – buy a top class replacement or trust Tomasz Kuszczak and Anders Lindegaard.
Who would you buy?

Let the Zczak do it!
Adler…he’s always been a Utd fan and it would be his dream come true to move to Utd…been saying that for a long time, no shite mercenary shite from him.
Adler was the German national keeper before he got injured. He will be the national keeper next world cup. He much better and quicker than Neuer.
What Spike said the lads even got a clause with regards to United in his contract at Leverkusen.
De Gea oozes class.
If he wants to come, he could be the keeper for the next decade. Can’t believe Fergie missed the Scunny game for nothing.
agree with spike, sign duff too, also a massive utd fan
ffs
Since there’s plenty of money in the transfer kitty, but no value in the market, I think it’s time John O’Shea put the gloves back on. He’s never given up a goal in the EPL, and it will keep him out of United’s midfield or back four.
Change your username I keep thinking of Dildo’s…..
Now, why doesn’t that surprise me?
Neuer prob the best option. De Gea is too young and experienced at the moment.
Young and experienced sounds good to me
Should have bought De Gea instead of Lindegaard and bring in an experienced goalkeeper for Van de Sar. De Gea would replace Kuzczcak. Lindegaard is not a better keeper than Kuzczcak but De Gea is.
Breaking news today is a comment from United first team coach Rene Meulensteen and he says he and SAF had discussed this matter and have decided Maartin Stekelenburg was the best choice to replace Van de Sar.
He goes on to say that they had looked at quite a few keepers and they had narrowed it down to three and had now decided on the 28 year old Ajax keeper who was also recommanded by Van de Sar. But I won’t believe this comment until it is confirmed that he is really coming to United.
Why don’t you put the quotes up rather than your inaccurate paraphrasing?
“Stekelenburg is indeed the goalkeeper who is at the top of our wanted list,” said Meulensteen to Voetbal International.
“We have naturally been talking a lot among ourselves about who should replace Van der Sar.
“Alex Ferguson has spoken about Stekelenburg with Edwin and that does not seem strange to me at all.”
ffs herbie, could you please post a link to this random shit you come out with?
lol
Cunts been reading the Daily Mail again FFs
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1351584/Manchester-United-want-Ajax-keeper-Maarten-Stekelenburg-replace-Edwin-van-der-Sar.html
So now we know Herbie doesn’t have a inside line to the gaffer he reads the Daily Mail
I’m putting my faith in Kusczak.
followed by your cock…….ffs
Stekelenburg would make sense, he’s the right age to have enough experience and is a similar frame to VDS. His game is similar to VDS, i.e. is solid if not spectacular, is a good organiser, good on crosses etc. The price isn’t a silly one either.
Lindegaard is a similar type of keeper as well so those two should do a good job and can spell Stekelenburg effectively.
In terms of a no 3, unless someone puts a bid in for him we should keep Amos. No point spending 5-10 mill on another keeper who is never going to play.
We just need someone who is reliable and consistent. Being a spectacular shot stopper is not the be all and end all. Van der Sar is not known for making spectacular saves but he is an excellent distributor of the ball, handles crosses well and brings a calmness to the back 4. Temperament is the most important quality, I’d say.
If Stekelenburg is in that sort of mould, let’s go and get him.
tbf you must have low standards..
Well…I had also put my faith in Anderson in the past aswell !
I haven’t been that disappointed….
The article is in ALL the UK newspapers. A United fan emailed me to check it out. There is also a comment from Mike Phelan he says the other target is Rui Patricio, the 22 year old Sporting Lisbon keeper. He says United had played against him before and were very impressed with him. Patricio is now the Portugal keeper. But Stekelenburg is the number one choice. It will come down to how much United are willing to pay. I know they can get Patricio at a very cheap price, but he is only 22.
TK out in the summer probably, wants to be no 1 guaranteed somewhere and contract expires summer 2012 so last chance for United to some money for him.
Just not quite United quality, he’s ok playing occcasionally, but you suspect his has a silly mistake at a crucial time in him. Will prob make a good keeper for a mid table prem side though in a similar way Tim Howard has.
Really hard choice.
De Gea is good, but has he got what it takes in the rough EPL?
Stekelenburg is also very good, but at 28, arent there younger keepers out there who can stay here for longer.
Someone who can easily stay for 10 years.
I wouldnt mind Neuer to be honest.
A keeper, 2 defenders, a defensive midfielder, an atacking playmaker midfielder, a left winger and a striker. Thats 7 new players coming in for those positions. How much money SAF got to spend?
1. VDS>>New GK signing
2. PIG>>Already signed Lindegaard
3&4. Nev&Brown>>8 PL starts between them, so only one new signing required (depending on Fergie’s view of de Laet)
5. Hargo>>New MID signing + Cleverley recalled
6. Owen>>Welbeck and Macheda recalled
Probably a left footed winger/A-MID is looking to be signed too, so I count four possible signings.
I think they will sign 3:
1. New GK
2. Defender
3. Midfielder
Gibson and Owen really are playing for a new contract. Brown might be gone but its a pity as he’s still United quality. TK to another club, Nev, VDS retired, Hargreaves released.
