Each year Rant puts its neck on the block and predicts the outcome of the season to come. There were mixed results in 2009/10 and 2010/11. Give it a try in the comments section below and we’ll revisit this post at the end of May 2012 to see who did best. No prizes. Just glory for the winner and good old fashioned public humiliation for everybody else.

Just out of curiosity, have any of you factored in the signing of a top midfielder into your predictions?
RobDiablo – I have not!
I think quite a lot of us are over optimistic. Utd definitely still has problems in midfield and if Ando and Cleverly fails to live up to expectations, we will very much be similar to last season minus a very good experienced Goal Keeper as well. I really hope De Gea, Lindegard, Ando, Flectcher and Cleverly can all rise up to the occasion this season and then I’m sure we’ll have more to cheer about come May 2012.

Just to be `otherwise’:
Premier League 3rd (behind Arsenal, winners and Man City, runners up) (injuries to our key players in the run in)
FA Cup (lose to Liverpool, eventual winners in quarter final)
Carling Cup Winners (beat Man City)
Champions League winners (beat Real Madrid 4-3 after being 4-1 up at one stage, 3 goals in 5 minutes blitz just before half-time, pundits call it the “most exciting final ever”.
player of the season: Aguero
young player of the season: Cleverley
golden boot: (tie) van Persie and Nani
Ed – Bold predictions!
But van Persie as Player of the Year? Interesting. Maybe I can’t see it because I can’t stand his drama queen act, But I’ll defer to your expertise if you care to elaborate.
Zombie – no expertise, just a feeling he’ll take on more responsibility and score a bagful of goals. It’s not much more than a guess. That and if a Gooner looks even a modicum less than shit the papers will be all over it.
If he stays fit he’ll be a monster….his momentum gets derailed by big injuries year after year. Amazing second half of the season last year when he finally was injury free.

Only prizes of interest are Prem and CL.
Glad to see not only one thinks we’ll win both… but only if other teams are as disjointed as last year, and we avoid Barca (and maybe Real) in final. We’d do both en-route.
Why does everyone say that about Barca? We have a much bigger chance of beating them than other teams do, except maybe Madrid. Especially since we have played them in two competitive finals so have experience.
As far as I’m concerned we won the league by 9pts last season and have improved more than Chelsea over the summer. I don’t think City will win because they will be concentrating on the Champions League too, something they didn’t have to worry about last year. Spurs could even have a chance of breaking back into the top 4 with this in mind.
I reckon SAF might fancy winning the FA Cup this year considering how long we’ve gone without it and losing in two semi finals recently hurts.
United’s Season
* Premier League: winners
* Champions League: semi-final
* Carling Cup: semi-final
* FA Cup: winners
* Player of the Year: Wayne Rooney
* Young player of the year: Chris Smalling
* Reserve Player of the Year: Ravel Morrison
Champions League Winners: Barcelona
Runners-up: Whoever gets to the final
FA Cup: United
Carling Cup: Arsenal
p.s. Chris Smalling won’t win, but he will be our best young player.
Just realised I misread your comment. Not entirely sure why you think we’d beat Barca over two legs though. If we can’t beat them at Wembley, what chance do we have at Camp Nou?
I reckon we could take Madrid either way. Their players are too arrogant for their own good…
I think City probably won’t be consistent or testicular enough to win the PL, but looking at that squad, they could go all the way in the CL. I definitely expect them to go far, it’s an ideal CL squad with a very solid defense, two defensive mids, and a few top class forwards to nick a goal. They’ll grind out results.
Their defense was equal best in the PL last season. Now they’ve got Silva, Tevez, Aguero, Dzeko, Ballotelli and presumably also Nasri — that’s just ridiculous. Imagine the following line up:
GK
— Back four —
— De Jong — Toure
Aguero — Nasri — Silva
Tevez
If Mancini ever has the balls to play it, mind.
x x o x x o x x x o x o o o x x x o x
Can anyone examine the above sequence of x’s and o’s and tell me what the next three characters should be? No? Can’t be arsed? Well, the x’s represent seasons in which United won the premiership, and, if the pattern continues, the next three characters would all be o’s. A deeper analysis of the pattern would indicate that Cheatski will win the league this year, while a side that has not yet won a Premiership title will win the following two years.
I have too much time on my hands, I know.
