One year ago Rant attempted to predict the outcome of the season’s major club and personal trophies. We did ok, despite taking some end-of-season flak to the contrary! This year we’re at it again. You try, and we’ll revist this post in May 2011 to see who performed best and worst. No prizes, just glory to the winner, public humiliation for everyone else.

Agree pretty much with Rants 2nd, QF, Carling Cup, FA Cup 5th Rd prediction. We are just not good enough to do it at the very highest level.
After listening to the manager’s press conference he admitted that we are short of goals from midfield. Following that he said that they were keeping Cleverley and not sending him on loan. If they don’t go for Ozil I would deduce that SAF rates TC enough to give Ozil a miss and save 10-15 million.
With Diouf going out on loan there should be a space in the 25 man squad for 1 signing though. Doubt we will see Diouf in a United shirt again, he is a perfect fit for Blackburn’s style of play. Its pretty much a try before you buy deal.
Fergie said this today:
“Supporters want you to buy players. They like to see a big signing every year. Sometimes the players like to see a big signing. But we have to be sensible about it. We look at our own squad and ask what do we need? I look at the players everyone says are available and they don’t excite me.
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/news/Ferguson-expects-no-more-signings-article546433.html
I think that’s a clear reference to Ozil. Well, if Ozil doesn’t excite Fergie then he must be very hard to please. Yet he found the likes of Manucho, Obertan and Diouf exciting? How strange.
Carrick, Amderson and Hargreaves injured. Giggs 36. Scholes 35. But Fergie is happy with the strenghth of his squad? Fletcher & Gibson – really “exciting” midfield that, Fergie! Who needs Ozil, eh? Yeah he’s shit that one.
Wait til Ozil is lighting up the Champions League Final at Wembley with Barca or Madrid, then we’ll see how glad Fergie is to have saved that whopping £10m. Hell, with that kind of cash we could buy a former non-league defender and an unknown African striker. Great value!
I don’t want to disrespect Fergie but these laughable statements he makes about the transfer market honestly make me sick.
excellent point fred, it is sickening….but if at the end of the season we have the title fergie is right……thing is as much as my heart says we will do it, the reality is we are gonna be potless
Gill can say whatever he likes about there being money to spend, safe in the knowledge that Fergie will tow the Glazer party line.
Fergie thinks that repeating himself will make everyone suddenly believe him. He is simply getting fucking irritating. The same man who spent £50 million on 3 wastes of space passing as midfielders (Carrick, Hargreaves, Anderson) wants to try and convince us that there isn’t a single player out there who can improve our squad.
I’m not denying that City have tipped the transfer market upside down but there clearly is value if you at least try and look for it. Ozil must be just one example.

oneills quit, i called it
@ uncleknobheadforfucksake Season hasn’t even started don’t think it counts!
Fair play to you, spot on. Just heard a rumour Holloway is gonna quit because he’s not being given any funds. If true, that would make me the second person to get a prediction right! Woohoo!
Goblin O’Neil, ffs – does that mean that Milner is gonna f-off to Citeh?
No we are not Mr Hormone we´ve now got the Charity Shield
To think some people wanted O’Neill at United. Quite possibly the most over-hyped manager in the history of the Premier League.
i was gonna say o’neill, but he wasnt sacked he quit…hence why i didnt

I sense that SAF not just wants to win the PL this year, but wants to do it by not spending.. after all, when you can spank City on the pitch, what better way to humiliate them by demonstrating that you can win hands down without spunking all that money on over-rated players… My only prediction then is that we will win the PL this year.
