Each year Rant predicts the season ahead: Manchester United’s performance, the winners, the losers and the individual stars of the campaign. There have been mixed results over the years – check out 2009/10, 2010/11, 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16.
New manager José Mourinho has added four high-quality acquisitions to United’s squad, with Eric Bailly, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba and Henryk Mykitaryan already making an impact at Old Trafford. It is a quartet of signings that could be the difference between simply qualifying for the Champions League and a shot at the title.
The eventual English champions, almost certainly succeeding Leicester, will face at a very minimum a close race with United. Indeed, this season could provide one of the most open races for the Premier League title over the past decade, with no clear favourite to win from up to seven hopefuls. After all, there has also been managerial change at Manchester City and Chelsea, the perception of stagnation at Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur, and a sense of after the Lord Mayor’s show pervading Leicester City.
Can Mourinho’s side bring the title back to United? Possibly. There is certainly a sense of momentum at Old Trafford and – after three years of mediocrity – high quality both on the pitch and the bench. The team to beat should be City. Guardiola has added quality to his squad, and has very quickly set about shaping a team in his inimitable fashion. Much to the consternation of Joe Hart, Eliaquim Mangala, Wilfried Bony and Samir Nasri.

Pep kicking out a mistake ridden goalkeeper won’t destabilize City. The only thing git will destabilize is the mentality of the grandiose English media and those who will parrot their ideas.
Our league position will depend on when Rooney is benched during the season. The more games he is played the less our chances of winning the league. Simple. Teams will start wisening up soon and press Rooney relentlessly and utilize the possession gained from him for fast transition counters.
Man united will win the title.Man united1 man city2 chelsea3 arsenal4
There’s always the prize for finishing fourth BUT I don’t think that TheArse will win that this season.
Otherwise, the key ingredient in this season’s standings will be – as always – injuries to key players. Last season, in a kind of mirror-like way, proved this point as Leicester played the same 13 guys in almost every minute of every match.
Man City will win all the domestic league and will play Champion League Final against Bayern Munich.
Have to say I think it is spot on. I think United will finish second, and Pep’s City may just be a bit too good. There will be a 2 point difference I think. I think it will also come down to how well City’s defense holds up. A backline of Clichy, Kompany/Otamendi, Stones/Kolarov and Sagna/Zabaleta playing a high offside line doesn’t exactly strike fear into the heart. With the exception of Clichy and error-prone Stones, There is exactly zero pace there. That may prove City’s undoing.
I would love to see another 2011/12 ending this season, and wish the screaming from Commentary Box must be like Rasssshfffoooooooord!!
For d first time in three years,am opstimistic as a United fan. We’ve got good starting eleven n good bench, n even dose missing match day squad are also good. And so am actually expecting d epl tittle to land in Old Trafold come may. Biggest challenge will come noisy neighbours, City.
