Manchester United tonight confirmed the signing of 20-year-old Portuguse striker Tiago Manuel Dias Correia from Vitória de Guimarães for a transfer fee of £7.4 million. The player, who signed for Guimarães just five weeks ago, is better known as Bébé in his homeland and will become the eighth striker on United’s books.
“Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Portuguese club Vitoria de Guimaraes for the purchase of 20-year-old striker Tiago Manuel Dias Correia for an undisclosed fee, subject to a successful medical in Manchester later this week,” a United statement read tonight.
The club also confirmed that it has agreed personal terms with the Cacém-born forward, who join the first team squad immediately. The signature represents a major surprised given that Bébé joined Guimarães from third division outfit Estrala da Amadora just five weeks ago.
United has bought out the player’s £7.4 million contract release fee on the recommendation of former assistant manager Carlos Queiroz, the Portugal national coach, reports The Guardian tonight. Sir Alex Ferguson first met the player on Tuesday, says the paper, while in Portugal to appear at Queiroz’ Portuguese FA disciplinary hearing.
Bébé appeared for Portugal in the Homeless World Cup last year, having been raised in an orphanage and spent part of his childhood on the streets.
He has also scored six goals in pre-season for Guimarães including these at 0.25 and 2.20 respectively, although a note of caution should be taken – the last player recommended to United by Queiroz was Angolan striker Manucho.
And for anybody who speaks Portuguese, an interview with the player:

This came from nowhere! Its a funny old game 🙂
Wikipedia profile says “his fans dont consider him a striker but rather an attacking midfielder” …
@greenhoffthegreat Where the hell is his Wikipedia profile?
@greenhoffthegreat – Profile on Vitoria website says he’s a forward http://www.vitoriasc.pt/futebol_plantel_detalhe.php?id_atleta=482
Im really excited by this one as we dont know much bout the kid but if carlos and sir alex thinks he good enough then he is, hopefully he can make similar impressive impact as the cheetah, chicharito. Please now can people stop these silly claims of no money, united have plenty of cash but will only spend it on those sir alex thinks are good enough.
Fuck’s sake, that’s 2 players we’ve signed since Fergie said he’s happy with the squad
Who is this cunt
WTF. Why have we signed an 8th striker?? We need a CM but everyone talks about having enough cover in the centre with 7 players competing for 3 (or 2) spots but now we have 6 (2 on loan) compeering for 1 (or 2) spots in the striker possy.
This is insane.
I hope Bebe is an attacking midfielder….
@ Bill – he’s 6’2″ and built like a brick shithouse – the dude isn’t an attacking midfielder!
Another striker? Now for our midfield!
we could of got ozil at this price
If Fergie’s going to play him as an attacking midfielder…bye bye Anderson?
plenty of cash? we just bought a homeless orphan
hahahahhaahha..thats funny!!!
Sell Hernandez now that his value is high!!
We literally have more strikers than Tottenham now.
TGR- GOT TO HELL MATE, we will never sell the brilliant Chicharito, NEVER……ive just read on Bebe that the fans at his old club in portugal meant to have viewed the lad as an attacking midfielder than frontman so we see.
Sorry meant say GO TO HELL, TGR WE WILL NEVER SELL CHICHARITO, NEVER.
@Ed … look up Bebe ( footballer) on Wikipedia redirected from Tiago Manuel Dias Correia
Good compilation http://videos.sapo.pt/qAIGilBf7mdtNCLDaW6p
He’s very quick and built like a cunt – perfect for our league
Some of his final balls are class
We’ll probably stick him on the wing and flog Diouf
Ok. He looks REALLY good.
Definitely some sort of AM.
Impressive array of misses in the Portugese Blue Square Premier…
Reminds me of the Diouf compilation, only not as high quality of course
FFs this is almost as bad as fucking Özil
I’m absolutely appalled about the way United prioritize their transfer targets. £7.4m out the window, for an UNPROVEN amateur Portuguese streetkid, when we already have seven strikers in Rooney, Berbatov, Owen, Hernandez :), Macheda, Diouf and Welbeck? What about the new homegrown rule? Why not use the £7.4m to help finance a deal for Mesut Özil instead?? Gutted. Nail me to the cross later if you want, but this boy did NOT impress me at all. Against weak opposition, most mediocre players would be able to shine. Cristiano, Nani and Anderson all had proven class when they were bought, but this absolutely reeks of failure.
OK Mystic Meg.
How about lets see what he can do in a United shirt first, eh?
I’d rather have the £7.4m, thank you.
looks good,
nice hair, nice shirt, nice smile, im happy
danny, enjoy your career at sunderland, and whichever top club you end up at from there, not fogetting your ten year england career
kiko, fuck off
no mate, you need to fuck off as kiko ìs amazing and haves a great manutd career.ahead of him. Chicharito is a superstar, man what a player ad will become a united legend. i like bebe and like to see what he can do.why do stupid abu’s show up on manutd fan sites? rip bri and gary coleman, being an abu maybe you can answer before you fuck off.
LOL… where do these numpties keep popping up from?
i don’t fucking care anymore. our entire transfer strategy seems to be built around buying cheap and hopefully selling for a couple of million profit 2 seasons later.
what is the point of spunking 7 mill on this guy and 5 on diouf when there is serious concern about the state of our midfield?
is this fergie’s definition of value?
LOL I assuming they were born to a whore of the night, and delivered out of her ass!! FFS some right cunts!
He’s going to be another waste of money! I doubt he’ll play more than 5 games for us
wow…fantastic news…just what we needed….another unknown untried untested nobody that we have wasted a stupid amount of money on……..ffs…..why?
why??
why??
why??
why??
I honestly give up with our policy
Compilation of videos.
http://videos.sapo.pt/qAIGilBf7mdtNCLDaW6p
Looks to have huge potential, more like an
attacking midfielder.
I believe in Sir Alex, he knows a great
player when he sees one
FFs Cap ! dont you know that there is no value in the market !!!
True so that we can spend it on the next striker we are supposedly interested in.
See here
THAT FUCKING BACON FACED TAGGART LOOK ALIKE JOCK WHAT A FUCKING DOZY TWAT
HE HAVE A THIRTY NINE YEAR OLD GOALY AND FUCK ALL CREDIBLE REPLACEMENT – DOESN’T THE WINO FUCKING GET THAT AFTER SCHMIKES WE HAD THE BARTHEZ, CARROL, TAIBI, BOSNICH, BEN IMPOSTER DISASTER.
INSTEAD OF FERGUS BUYING EVERY STRIKER UNDER THE SON THAT HAS A GREAT YOU TUBE VIDOE WHY DOESNT THE FUCKING CUNT FOCUS ON THE GOALY ISSUE OR AT LEAST MIDFIELD
ROONEY, BERBA, OWEN, CHIC, MECHA, WELLA, DOIUF AND NOW BEBE, HAS THE CUNT LOST HIS MIND?
THE FACT THAT ARSENAL ARE NOW AFTER SCWARZER / REINA AND TRYING TO OFFLOAN ALUMINIUM AND FABIASNKI SHOWS HOW FUCKING IMPORTANT THE GOALY ISSUE IS
MOANY HO PARKED CUDICHINI ON THE BENCH FOR THREE YEARS TO PREVENT US GETTING HIM
IVE HAD ENOUGHT WITH THIS BULLSHIT POLICY OF BUYING STRIKERS AND FERGAL IS FUCKING UP THE BIGGGEST TICKING TIME BOMB THIS CLUB FACES – THE GOALY ISSUE.
FUCKING CUNT FERGAL SORT IT OUT
you didn’t mention midfield danni
my theory is that with youth you can plug gaps in the foward and midfield position but for a goaly, you need proven european and international experience (or at least some) – i.e., you have to buy in that talent – there is some cunts called Pogba and King who are deadly midfielders and Clerverly is supposed to be good, but for the goaly i wish we could given ben imposter a free run for 2 years and accept that he will have clangers but he would get through and be good – but United can’t afford to do that anymore; no club can.
even Spuds have gone through the pain with Gomez and now he is looking the bollocks but we have no policy – Kusckack and Amos, what the fuck.
Classic Danni goes into Meltdown Muhaaaaa
have calmed down now – the fact that he is more than half of what Ozil would cost is a travesty.
@ Bill – he’s 6’2″ and built like a brick shithouse – the dude isn’t an attacking midfielder!
Haven’t we just loaned someone of that description to Blackburn!
Just don’t get it!!
Welbeck and Macheda must be worried.
the last five years of transfers says different
We all believe in Sir Alex Jay, his record speaks for itself but because of that doesn’t mean that he is immune to criticism he has as pointed out by Knobhead made some clangers in his time regarding transfers.
Oooh Bebe I love your way…
The Ramones rate Bebe
Bebe I love you !

Someone flood youtube with video’s of Ozil. As this seems to the principle basis for which Fergie signs players these days it’s bound to get him bidding.
yeah check out the anderson videos – awesome. except that he is a fat shit who can’t pass, tackle, shoot or generally appreciate that the big round plastic thing is a football.
They’re the ones of him playing for Utd tho aren’t they.
Finally Berbatov will b a Happy Chappy…finally someone SLOWER THAN HIM!!!
atleast he is REAAALLLLLY TALLL!!!
Why the fuck did we buy Ziggy Marley?
Bebe can play on wing, midfield and forward, he is a quick powerful creative streetwise player and sounds a great buy. Ozil is highly over-rated and Fergie clearly doesnt want him thank god, what happen to fans obsession with Sneijder, oh wait, been replaced with Ozil. Chicharito (£6m), Smalling (£10m), Bebe (£7.4m) and upgrades of Amos and Cleverley is great business as if sale of Flopster (£6m) and Tosic (£8m), shame we sòld Cathcart (£500k?). Chicharito is a world class star.
flopster…
witty
several top sides in portugal and across europe including real madrid was interested in Bebe, but thanks to carlos, we have made the move for this exciting young attacking midfielder/winger/forward and with the creativity of Cleverley, Nani, Valenia, Obertan and Bebe we have plenty of midfield creativity, let alone the genius that is Scholesy and the welsh wizard that is Giggs, the solid midfield work horse that is Fletcher, Park, Gibson, Anderson and Carrick we dont need another signing. we are ready.
agreed I’m excited to see this young goalkeeper/defender/midfielder/striker in action
Have you got any tablets left over ? because I sure don’t know in which world you live Cleverley, Obertan and Bebe are all unproven, Giggs and Scholes are coming to the end of there career, whilst after the Charity Shield there maybe hope for Carrick if he can sustain decent form for the season the same cannot be said of Anderson who seems to prefer the party boy image, Nani if he continues from last season, Valencia, Park and Fletcher will be important players for us over the course of the season but we are anthing but ready.
We may win the league the coveted 19th Title, we may win one or all of the domestic cups and we could do well in the Champions League but all that is doing if it happens is covering cracks that have appeared, be it replacing our ageing Midfield or Goalkeeper to hoping that one or all these young lads will make the grade and step into the shoes of those who went before them.
he’s also a ball boy and fitness coach too
To be honest… all this new striker collecting we’re doing is worrying me… it’s got me wondering i the Glazers are considering selling Rooney.
We’ve got a glut of strikers now… and Rooney would pull in £50 mill +…
I wouldn’t put it past them to try.
thought crossed my mind too alf
Rooney sale – everyone has their price, but the problem is that the money just won’t be re-invested into the squad – it will go towards the debt. Just plain wrong!
the midfield isnt that old, only giggs and scholes are closing in on retirement with nani, ando, gibbo, valencia, gabby and cleverley all young aswell as bebe who can play across midfield and upfront, we have kuszczak to take over from edwin with amos as backup unless fergie goes for a new keeper next summer. the kids will gain more experience over this season. i know we got some way to go but we are ready for the season and to take our ttle back. rooney will not be sold ever. gonna be a good season.
You still dont get it only Valencia and Nani can be classed as being there and able to do the job, the rest are unproven and yes they could be the best thing since sliced bread but it can also go the other way as well, Gibson im not sure his hoofing from 30 feet out and hoping that it will go in doesnt help us, Anderson needs be told this season is make or break.
Kuszczak when he has been in goal for long periods has improved but whether he can adequately take over from VDS remains to be seen. Our Title the title belongs to the team that at the end of the season has the most points and hopefully it will be us but that isnt written in stone.
And as for Rooney if the Glazers really wanted to let him go then he would because they don´t give a hoot for anything apart from the money.
Contrary to the wisdom of the forum, I’m going to trust Fergie on this one. He must have some idea of what he’s doing, even if we don’t.
If he can play as an attacking midfielder, great. Let’s see how many opportunities he gets, though.
Excited by this guy but know very little about him. Where do all these strikers fit in Fergie’s plans? As for potential Rooney sale, don’t see it happening. What I would really love is a 15 goal a season striker. Is the Ozil thing totally dead in the water?
exactly bor, some fuckin rasta ziggy marley spliffed out reggae reggae chicken cunt with an afro and everyone is running around with a hard on
fuck off, if we have 7m to spend on some cunt who can’t even wash his air, what fucking chance have we got on Ozil never fucking mind the goal issue
I suppose this Bebox is so fucking great that he will replace VDS. Fucking dozy cunts on here all banging on about goals and attacking midfield. Whay you tards don;t fucking realise is that after Schmikes we had to deal with shite of barthex, carrol ,bosnich, tiabi, FOR FUCKS SAKE, until Fergus got his arse into gear.
Why the fuck have we got 8 strikers (sorry 7 cos Wellbeck has fucked off “a defo star England plater for the future” when the biggest ticking bomb this club faces is till not addressed!
Fergal is loosing the plot, it is shit planning, and the day VDS starts letting them in only because he is an old cunt and Rio can’t get up because of his fucked back, is going to be a black day indeed.
Danni, what makes you so sure that we aren’t looking at the goalkeeping situation at this minute? Only very recently we were linked with the young Danish keeper Lindesgard or whatever his name is.
You don’t seriously think that Fergie is looking at the goalkeeping situation and thinks, “fuck it, Van Der Sar will carry on forever”, do you?
Goalkeepers can play until they’re very old anyway. I have no concerns about Van Der Sar staying on for another season.
You still haven’t addressed the fact that Madrid and 2 other clubs were after him at the same time as us…so perhaps he’s not completely shit, eh? Perhaps Fergie is going to mould him into a midfield position, who knows.
Oh, and I’m a tard as well, am I?
I think Fergus has lost the plot. Actions speak louder than words and are you telling me that EIGHT FUCKING STRIKERS is normal?
At least get 4 fucking goalies and loan the cunts out so that they can be well bred. He bangs on about Ben Imposter being the next big thing for England – SOLD. He bangs on about Welbeck, next big england striker – LOANED.
Linked? Is that all you got? We’ve been linked with Buffon, Neuer, Cudicni, Given and many others. The fucker has done shit to resolve this situation.
VDS – you just don’t get it. When a goaly fucks up as his age – he is a gonner. Game over, and the team is FUCKED. Goalies and defence is about partnerships – it takes months. Look at Le Arse after Seaman – look at us after Schmikes – ffs, look at Chavs when Cech is out!!!
VDS has been great but he has fucked up more than few times and thankfully Vida and Rio have been around.
Bebongo, FUCK HIM, you think Fergus has got the bollocks to drop Rooney or Berba? NO. You think he is gonna drop his love child, Owen no.
Fergus is playing politics, this was just a stubborn move to stop another club getting him.
IF he is a midfielder, then great and I take everything back and its a good investment but he looks like a striker to me in which case that yound lad who with a stroke of genius defined our title a few seasons ago young Mecheda must be feeling sick at the though of some rasta bumber klaart jemorqueer weird fucker taking his place.
Am sure he’s a good player, I just think Fergals policy is fucked.
I agree that we have fucked in the past with failing to replace Schmeichel but what I don’t get is that you are CERTAIN that we’re not looking at other keepers. Where does that come from?
It’s not enough to be a talented keeper. You have to have the bottle and temperament to be able to play in front of 75,000 fans every week for one of the biggest clubs in the world – but they’re two a penny, right?
I think you’re criticisms of van der Sar are plain wrong. Sure, he could have saved a couple of goals last season but his temperament and consistency are first-rate. There are not many better keepers out there. No way is the Cech of 2010 as good as the Cech of 5 years ago.
As for our striking options, now that we have more (genuine) options up front I don’t think Fergie will be relying on Berba and Rooney all season long. I stand to be proved wrong, of course.
“Gill sheds light on Bebe deal
Chief executive David Gill has revealed that United’s pursuit of Bebe only gathered pace during the course of this week.
The Reds stunned football by announcing the prospective capture of the largely unknown Portuguese striker on Wednesday evening, and Gill sees the deal as further proof of United’s investment in raw potential.
“He’s a player we’ve been following, but he really came on the scene in the last week or so,” Gill told MUTV. “We looked at him, spoke to a number of people about him and then went out and secured the deal yesterday.
“It’s exciting. He’s a potential player, and a lot of Manchester United’s focus is about getting players who have the potential and then getting them under the great coaching of Alex, Mick, Rene and other people. He can fulfill that potential with Manchester United and I think it’s going to be exciting. Let’s hope it works out.”
Bebe’s arrival hinges on a successful medical later this week, and Gill moved quickly to play down suggestions the 20-year-old will be immediately sent out on loan. Instead, Bebe will be given the chance to assimilate and prove himself at United.
“He’ll join up and be part of the first team squad this season,” said Gill. “I think he’ll probably stay this year. (He is) a boy who has to learn English and integrate into Manchester United, and he’s really come from nowhere in a lot of respects.
“I think he’ll benefit from having day to day coaching from some of the best coaches in the world in the Manchester United way. He’ll certainly be with us this season and you never know, we’ll see what happens.”
8 MIL !!!! Don’t see the sense in this at all, something fishy going on here. Wonder if we will ever see him in a united shirt, doubt it somehow, will probably slip off into obscurity like so many others. 8 MIL, when our best midfielder under 35 is Darren Fletcher !!!!!!
the whole thing seems like a joke. i hope for our sake he turns out to be a decent player. but its certainly a slap in the face for the likes of welbeck and macheda. unless he turs out be a winger or an attacking mid or whatever. but from what gill has said, my guess is that we wont see bebe in the first team this season. he’ll spend time in the reserves getting the proper coaching that he’s lacked. maybe fergie thinks he’s spotted a rough diamond. who knows. only time will tell. either way, at least we know there is money around if we need it
sheesh, there are several problems with the deal. i don’t think fergie’s lost the plot, beccause i’ve thought so in the past and been proven wrong.
the thing is we’re hoarding several young players when we clearly won’t be able to give all of them a chance. and all of them are above average, no one is truly outstanding, with the possible exception of chicharito.
even after having all these players, fergie will still insist on playing the veterans which doesn’t give the youngsters a chance to progress. it seems like all their talk of potential is just bullshit. the feeling i get is that we’re just hoping to be able to sell them on for a small profit a few years down the line.
in the meanwhile, the issues that need addressing are not being addressed. if fergie starts picking picking some youngsters ahead of the oldies, there would at least be some chance of their having the ability to take over when the time comes. i don’t know what we’re going to do. the one youngster who gets chances in midfield is darron fucking gibson who looks well short of what we require.
we’ve got kuszczak and amos as back up to van der sar.
i felt the same way at the start of the 06/07 season, and i was proven spectacularly wrong, so i hope its the same way this time.
Even if this new kid is played in the MF whats the point. We already have unknown, full of potential players in the midfield like Cleverly. What we need is a midfielder who would slot right in and reduce Scholes to a bench warmer.
Don’t see us gaining anything from this signing.
it’s clearly as defensive move to fend off interest from other clubs – the fact that Gill has the audacity to say we had a look at him last week, people thought he was great – we stumped up the cash, end of. this smacks of a total knee-jerk reaction.
http://msnsport.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_6309518,00.html
“The most important thing is to settle him into the club. We don’t need to rush him because we have plenty of players in his position like Nani, Valencia, Obertan, Cleverley and Giggs.”
Sounds like Fergie has plans to make him a midfielder.
“I think he’ll probably stay this year”
Cheers David, that’s awful good of you!
Are we selling him next year or what?
ffs
Says on the website we’ve signed the “Winger” Bebe. Judging from statements and what I’ve seen, I dont think he’s gonna end up playing as striker
I agree that we need to place an emphasis on quality rather than quantity and I completely agree that we need to sort out the midfield. If, over time, it turns out that the midfield issue still hasn’t actually been addressed then I will be fucked off but, until such a time arrives, I have to be fair to a) this player and think that he’s good enough and b) be fair to the manager for he must have seen something that we don’t know about.
Time will tell whether this player goes any way towards addressing the midfield issue but he deserves a fair chance.
A manager as successful as Fergie can’t be so blind to the glaring deficiencies in the side, whether that be in terms of goalkeeper, midfield or wherever. People on here are convinced that Fergie isn’t looking for a midfielder or goalkeeper. Again, I ask…how can you be so sure?
Bebe’s former coach said they tried to flog the player a year ago for a mere €150,000
“Last season we had no money at all,” Paxaio told the Daily Mail. “We were trying to transfer Bebe to other clubs. We had to raise money desperately. We told everyone in England and in Europe: ‘For €150,000 you can have him’.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=819932&sec=england&cc=5739
£7FUCKING MIL! Value?!
Lol – we got done in, maybe Bebe’s video wasn’t available on YouTube last year so Taggart couldn’t make a decision.
UNDER THE LKHFaffing leadership/ADMINISTRATION this would not have happened.
We would have bought a semi cure for some type of mental illness and then persecuted a load of mongs at old trafford for half time entertainment
he has been utter shite so far for the under 21s against england
who have smalling wellbeck and cleverey starting
Watching Bebe in the Portugal v England U21 game. He’s done precious little so far
Cleverley is shit hot though, he’s just played a truly fucking stonking through-ball for Sturridge who chipped the keeper and scored
It really was a top pass
Welbeck is avin it n all
It’s get even better.
Bebe has been left out of the Champions League squad.
We have submitted 24 rather than 25?!?!
If we have sailed through the group, then by game 5 or 6 it would be savvy to give him a run out?
Oh dear.
Fuck’s sake, he’s been left out, and so has Hargreaves
They can be registered from February assuming we qualify, but I can’t see Bebe playing against the top teams in the knock out stage
Hargreaves might
Looks like he is in the 25 man squad:
http://www.teamtalk.com/manchester-united/6362184/Bebe-included-in-United-s-CL-squad
