Wolverhampton Wanderers visit Old Trafford for the second time in 10 days, with the hosts looking to extend a winning streak that runs to five games. Unbeaten in 17 matches this season, Sir Alex Ferguson’s men will close to within two points of Chelsea with victory over relegation threatened Wolves, with the leaders not in action until Sunday afternoon.
United’s task is not aided by a lengthy absentee list, with key players either missing or struggling for fitness. Nani, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen and Ryan Giggs are likely to miss the fixture, while Darren Fletcher is doubtful after injuring his foot scoring United’s opening goal against Bursaspor.
Giggs has trained all week and Ferguson will make a late call on the Welshman’s inclusion.
Meanwhile Anderson, Jonny Evans and Darron Gibson have been laid low by the virus sweeping the United camp in recent days. Ferguson missed Friday morning’s press conference with the bug as assistant Mike Phelan deputised. The manager will return to sit on United’s bench Saturday afternoon alongside the trio.
However, with the derby against cross-town rivals Manchester City in midweek, Ferguson’s men could be forgiven for losing focus for Saturday’s clash. After all, the Wolves’ fixture, important in its own right, is already overshadowed by the build up to Wednesday’s game.
“The next game is the most important game. We know how difficult it can be if you take your eye off the game. Wolves are our next opponents and they will be tough,” said Phelan.
“What Wolves have shown is a great resilience to play in the Premier League. They’ve started to play some seriously good football over the last month or so. They’ve taken good teams to the edge.
“I’ve heard everyone is requesting Wolves play a strong side. We always intend to do that and we will put our best side on the pitch we can.”
United can welcome back Rio Ferdinand, who was rested for United’s trip to Turkey in midweek. Chris Smalling will drop to the bench despite another solid display against Bursaspor.
However, with three wingers injured the England captain is likely to be joined in the United side by goalscorer Gabriel Obertan for only the Frenchman’s second Premier League start.
Injuries mean that Bébé will make the United bench at a minimum, with Ferguson likely to keep faith with Javier Hernández and Dimitar Berbatov up front. The Bulgarian has failed to score in seven matches despite an excellent start to the season.
Meanwhile, Rooney will miss both United’s match against Wolves and the derby after United sent the striker to recuperate at the Nike World campus in Oregon. United visited the campus during the club’s American tour in 2003, which houses Nike’s headquarters.
The striker has not appeared for United since signing a new £180,000 a week contract after protracted and very public negotiations last month. Death threats were made against the 25-year-old as the now infamous ‘men in black’ visited the star’s home before Rooney signed.
United, keen to avoid additional publicity in derby week, hope that Rooney will recuperate away from the media spotlight.
The striker will join Nike World’s endurance training programme – “Sparq” – which aims to increase the Rooney’s speed, power, agility, reactions and quickness to elite-level fitness. The plan is to undergo a full week of individual conditioning work, before Rooney returns to Carrington next weekend.
“We have the facilities here, but we thought might be in the best interests of him and the club to have a change of scenery for a little while,” adds Phelan.
“He can go there without the attention that would get around here.”
Meanwhile, Mick McCarthey is expected to name a full strength side. The former Republic of Ireland manager made 10 changes for the corresponding fixture last season, incurring widespread criticism and a £25,000 fine by the FA.
McCarthey is without injured quartet Jody Craddock, Adlene Guedioura, Michael Kightly and Ronald Zubar but can welcome back key players from the side that played United in the Carling Cup. This includes ‘keeper Marcus Hannemann, who this week was critical of Heurelho Gomes’ role in Nani’s controversial winner against Tottenham Hotspur.
Meanwhile, the United manager defended McCarthy against recent criticism by former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy that the Midland’s side it too aggressive.
“It is an insult to the managers of the teams, because you couldn’t get two more honest guys than Tony Pulis and Mick McCarthy,” Ferguson told Inside United magazine.
“Players are babies now. In my day you had to hit someone with a hatchet before a referee booked you. It’s a different game now.”

Do we expect Scholes to start today and on Wednesday?
Our midfield’s a bit stretched right now… play Scholes today, worry about Wednesday when it comes.
maybe a carrick oshea midfield
Fuck off… I just put Scholes on my fantasy team.
Any one watch “football focus”?
An Old Trafford special.
1. Sir Alex Ferguson’s men will close to within two points of Chelsea with victory over newly promoted Wolves
Er no – we cam up last season 😛
2.Meanwhile, Mick McCarthey is expected to name a full strength side. The former Republic of Ireland manager made 10 changes for the corresponding fixture last season, incurring widespread criticism and a £25,000 fine by the FA.
That should read ‘a suspended £25,000’ fine
Should be a good match today, as usual we are being tagged with ‘lambs to the slaughter’ etc and most non-Wolves fans believe we will get thumped!
Hope to prove them wrong but it will be tough but I believe we can get something this afternoon.
Scholes is on 4 yellows and we need him against City.
Prob CM of Carrick and JOS.
butty looks terrible and is a shite pundit
HARGREAVES STARTS
FUCKING WHAT
vds brown rio vidic oshite park fletcher hargreaves evra obentrran hernandez

Very little creativity in that 11
Fergie resting players for City
Hardgreaves is starting today. Fergie’s secret weapon.
shite team all the same. park oshea in midfield is never good
————————————————————————————–
He was better at punditry though than he was at shootin! The cunt looked like Nosforatu.
🙂 Lol !
Resting players… ffs… he’s happy with our squad… but this hodge-podge of shite is what we’ve got, when he needs to rest a few players.
Bah!
Makes sense for you to rest players with the City game coming up.
absolutely shocking team
Aye, the second string isn’t as strong as Fergie thinks it is
Wolves will fancy it after seeing the 11
Hargreaves – fucking hell, will he get injured putting on his boot.
Fucking hell – this could be great (IF the mop headed cunt can stay fit)
Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves makes a shock start – his first in two years. Gabriel Obertan, who scored in the midweek win against Bursaspor, will provide support for Javier Hernandez in attack. Wolves are unchanged from the side that beat Manchester City last week.”
If McCcarthy played a team as shit as ours… there’d be another inquest.
Sopcast 82153… working well.
thisll end 0-0 or 1-0, and the goal won’t be til well in the second half

You expect a disjointed game and you expect mistakes when you play a lot of squaddies and kids
But to think this 11 is good enough to beat a half decent Prem team is wrong
yawn
Rooney will be watching this game somewhere, asking himself… “what the fuck was I thinking?”
hes been saying that a lot recently
come on reds

what a shitty shitty game. only players who look decent are hernandez and obertan.
why the fuck does o’shea start?
it’s good that hargreaves is off, the game would be even worse if he were playing.
bebe does okay and then smacks the ball out of the stadium.
we had evra taking a fucking free kick near the dee.
LKHF

Bebe’s crossing is the worst I’ve ever seen at United
Brilliant.
Bebe can’t cross for toffee.
I fully support WAYNE ROONEY.
Fucking squad is piss poor. Fergie is deluded!
FFS Hernandez in the box looking to square it and there’s no cunt there
Make a change FFS bring on some pros
come on united
come on reds
Scholes, at last
But if he gets booked he misses the game against City
Come on Fergie, you daft old cunt… bring on Scholes, or we’re going to drop more points.
Why is Berbatov not even a sub today?
the sub is subbed off
Ill.
come on cunts
Wolves should have scored
What a pile of dogshit…. Rooney must see this shit in training no wonder he said what he did!

HA FUCKING HA – PARK IS SHIT,
PARK OFFERS NOTHING AND IS NOT GOOD FOR UNITED
OH AND FLETCHER IS A SQUAD PLAYER AT BEST
lolololollol!!
fucking YES
Haha look at Mick McCarthy’s reaction, he almost shits himself with rage
KEANO
off the hook.. utter shite
Shame really….. paper over the cracks for another week I suppose…
We’ll take the points… but Fergie owes Park a blowjob.
That was dire.
Gutted ! 🙁
Thank fuck for the win
But fuck Fergie
Fuck him picking a team that isn’t good enough to win; that’s shit for 75 minutes until he brings on the pros
It’s ANOTHER fucking get out of jail job. Sick of it. The squad is lacking so much quality
so we have won every game since dirty scouse bin-dipping cunt got injured and is now whoring himself with Nike in the US of A – apparently – “training”, cos Carrington can’t stand the sight of the unwashed turd.
may be he can get some tips from Tiger Woods.
Don’t ya just love it when the cunts see what Utd can do when they fight
Bad move to start Hardgreaves, could not get it together after he went off so early. That may have brought the morale down in the team. Its great though that Bolton put 4 past Spurs. Puts them furher down the tables.
we should be winning these games easily. we got lucky. if we want to have any chance of winning the leage we cant fuck about
whatever dude, you can bitch all you want but didn’t see you wankers banging on about us getting out of jail when mecheda, ole and giggs, saved our asses.
yeah so what we haven’t got keane, ince, robson in midfield – what the fuck you gonna do about – go and byt xavi, go and get messi on loan
fucking deal with it
a shite performance from a shite team, but at least the team showed some hunger
So many injures and flu – this is actually a pretty decent result. Wolves beat City last week.
Park definitely is an asset at the moment covering wings and centre mid.
Good job we have a big squad really, internationals who play for United can end playing over 60 games a season – no wonder there are so many players out.
not if half your A-listers are injured, it’s about surviving and taking opportunities and getting rid of homos like bum-boy Anderson and Gibson and using the tried and tested grafters who never say die, Fletch and Park – add in some experience with Scholes and the youth fizz of Hernandez, Obertan, Mecheda, and we will always have a chance. always.
Bad move to start Hargreaves, O’Shea, Brown, and Park out of position on the left.
Wolves were really good.
Thanks but I wanted to get at least a point today ! Oh well, I am off to Molinuex Tuesday to see us whack the Arse !
The last time I was at Old Trafford was in FEB 1980 when Mel Eves scored the winner and that was the last time we beat you there !
😉
I back Rooney…. he was right. Deal with it.
that was terrible, park saved our bacon. bebe shouldn’t play for 6 months, there’s too much he needs to work on.
what has happened to macheda? i’ve never seen him play well since those goals in his first 2 games. he can’t hold the ball up, doesn’t seem to have any pace and he keeps passing to the other team.
hernandez was great, and should’ve had a goal but bebe fucked up an easy cross. hernandez also took a dive, and i was proud of him.
keep o’shea off the fucking team ffs, the guy is absolute dog shit.
LKHF
You would back you dirty homo.
and it was typical fergie, right at the end, he realised that we actually need another striker, so he brings on macheda and puts hernandez on the fucking right. arrgh, he makes me want to break stuff.
o’shea is properly gash, he should only be used if Brian is not available
Macheda was on the pitch for 20 minutes! Give him a break.
Hernandez’s dive was a low point for me. It looked like he tried to put his leg out to brush the keeper to get the pen. Not really into cheats wearing the Red shirt – we should be better than. A romantic old fashioned philosophy but there we go.
You don’t half talk shit Dannii…
Park scored two great goals today, and played fairly well besides… big deal… this was Wolves for fuck sake… a better team and we’d have dropped more points.
As a team, we were rubbish today, and we were lucky to knick all 3 points, against relegation fodder… I take it, that’s good enough for you.
fergus was clearly caned. cunt started with Oshea in midfield – FFS if you are gonne play the “international” play him at the back and on the side where he has least chance of ruining our game.
even if bebe is 3 years of being a footballer rather than some breakdancer, he is better than o-gay
oshea play cm is the equivalent of planting a tree in the centre of the park, its not going to stopp the oppo player, it just means it takes him a second longer cause he’s got a big lump or irish bender bark to stroll round
3 points. fuck off.
—————————————————————————————
Park, Obertan, and Macheda are dogshit……………..Fact!
Bebe was touted around by his agent in the summer for 500,000 euros, we paid £7 million, what the fucks all that about.
We got lucky again, simple as. Without a fully fit Rooney we are ordinary, very ordinary. He obviously made that clear to Fergie, and most of us knew that anyway.
We move on.
We had the chance to add quality to our midfield, and we didn’t, and now we’re paying the price with boring inane inept lifeless dull performances against alright ooposition
When Macheda saved us against Villa, we had a truly great double winning European Cup team. And obviously Ole & Giggs played in another great United team. There were the usual get out of jail games then, but not so early in the season, not so often and not against such shite opposition.
Even with the A-listers you mentioned in reply to Alf we’ve been shit. We’e only had 2 comfortable wins so far.
Still unbeaten….but only one league win in 5 away from home. I think all things considered my prediction of 2nd is probably going to be right. A domestic cup win and CL Q/F.
—————————————————————————————
Thats how most probably feel Billiam. The sad thing about it is this, I hate the scouse fuckers with a relish, and though Chelsea will probably win the league anyway, i want them to beat the horrible twats tomorrow. The Dippers not getting into another C/League would cost them a further £45 Million which would basically drive out Gerrard and Torres and no cunt would want to sign for them so they’d be fucked……..big time So whilst we’re all over the fuckin place at least i can take some comfort that them work shy horrible bin dipping granny stabbing filthy shitbags are in no mans land i’ll be a happy chappy.
what he says *doffs cap and shakes his errrr hand.*
Park scored a couple of goals today, which we should of course be thankful for, but the rest of his performance stood out partly because the rest of the side were utter turd. He ran around a lot, occasionally winning the ball which to be fair was still a heck of a lot more than the other players did combined.
I still maintain that he is not good enough for United. Just because he played far better than the rest of the dross out there does not make him United quality.
We struggled against a Wolves side who were happy to frustrate for 90 mins because we lacked invention or ideas. It was worrying how desperately we needed someone like Scholes to come on and give Wolves something to think about.
BRIAN LIKES THIS.
—————————————————————————————
Bri’s in the house……………”woop..woop”
i’ll take 3 points anytime especially with half the 1st team out injured or bunged up with flu
sweet pea doesnt score when he starts a game – he should only be brought on as a sub
bebe is very very raw but he will improve im sure – smalling was imo a car crash pre season but he has come on immensely with help from rio and vidic so give bebe time to prove his worth – remember how ronny was in his 1st 2 seasons – more shite than not; all in all a game worth forgetting but a vital 3 points against a pretty resilient wolves side who knew how to play against our 2nd team from 2 weeks ago
that’s fucking bollocks about ron tbf, you could say from minute one against bolton he had the xfactor, he was out poty in his first year and the best winger in the prem by the end of his second, fucking typically lazy shite there han
Knobhead’s right. For reasons that escape me, United fans like to peddle this myth that Ronnie was shite in his first couple of seasons. From his debut (and I should know as I was there), everyone could see that this player was going to be a class act.
Disregard ABU criticisms of him as a “showpony” and “lacking in end product”. He was still one of our most influential players, even in his early seasons at the club.
I was at the FA Cup semi at Villa Park (the one where Scholesy scored in a 1-0 win) where he made utter dickheads of the Arsenal full backs that day.
Sheesh – Ronnie’s debut was the best first 20 minutes of any United player I’ve ever seen. Left OT exhilarated.
Ronalod lit up the league the minute he stepped on the pitch… the only complaint was a bit of selfishness, and some poor decision making.
The fucker was always trying to win games single handedly… and sometimes he did.
the big positive last night was chicharito. the guy played very well although he had absolutely no support, and never stopped trying. he would’ve scored if bebe could cross.
obertan also did okay in my opinion. the guy clearly has skill and pace. last night he kept making safe passes, but i think with a few more games and more confidence, he will show his talents.
rons was the best first twenty minutes, waynes hattrick was the best first 90, thee are the calibre of ‘young players’ we should be getting
FFS I’m old… errrr remember George Best, he who lit up our hearts and minds in nearly every game before demon drink caught him.
20mins 90mins bahhhhhh
What a result yesterday’s turned out to be. Had we dropped points, we’d have finished the weekend kicking ourselves for failing to close the gap at the top.
Hopefully we can beat the Bitters. I reckon, given our current form, getting six points from City and Villa might be asking a bit too much, though.
balotelli’s out after being sent off it seems. dunno how he’s doing though, so i don’t know whether its good.
if we can keep the gap between chelsea and us to 4 points till after next weekend, that’d be fine for me.
what i said was that more often than not, ronny was poor in his 1st 2 seasons- yes he had a great debut but more often than not he was too busy trying to do tricks and i’m sure most of you will remember rvn with his hands on his hips after another wayward cross from the wing…what i saw of bebe on motd wasn’t all bad – i just think he was a little too eager or anxious yesterday and he has the potential to do pretty well – either that or saf has been duped by carlos into buying one fucking expensive lemon
are you serious – or pulling uncles knob? if so, you are pretty ancient if you can remember George Best
What you are saying is that he had rough edges, which is true, but to say that he was rubbish more often than not is wrong. He still outperformed most of the other players, irrespective of the fact that he was a bit of a showpony.
What you are saying is that he had rough edges, which is true, but to say that he was rubbish more often than not is wrong. He still outperformed most of the other players, irrespective of the fact that he was a bit of a showpony.
dude, we have won six on the run and the only undefeated team in EPL
that is despite, fat overpaid white pele / cunt Rooney is getting tips from Tiger at Nike World in the States who has been out for over a month
the biggest problem we face is Taggart, if he has one more bottle of gin and decides to play any of OShite, Anderson or Gibson, we stand to be fucked
despite not playing OK, we are doing OK
as soon as the Rio, Vida, VDS triangle is in force and they have a run, together with guys who put a shift in come what may such as Park and Fletch and of course Hernandex, we will always have a chance
the very fact that he had SKILL was amazing. i still get a hard on watching his reverse cross from behind his legs
he was the most skillful player we have had since Giggs, not the most consistent – but by the end, the best peak time player this club and country has ever had – and arguably his 48 goal season, world, european, EPL, plus treble including UCL, is the best season by any player, ever.
he was God
there real hope for nani some of his performances this season have been ronaldo-esque, fucking gets his head down, runs at the cunts, and has a pop.
yes ok i agree i was a bit too strong in my damning of ronny in my earlier post but in part that was due to the negative comments about bebe rubbing me up the wrong way
ronny was an amazing find and a major void still waiting to be half filled – although valencia is a credit to the team – i just want the lad bebe to do well and get pissed when i see the lad torn to pieces on here and other sites. he at least tried and put some effort into yesterday – and im sure with the right encouragement from the coaching staff he will prove an asset.
i agree with that – end of the day, it’s Taggart’s fault. 100%.
you either train a lad up so he can cope physically or mentally with an A team game, or not. the cunt had no idea at the end – he needs training but physically he looks like a built cunt so am sure all those street soccer you tube vids that he’s been watching will bear fruit
We started a match without Nani, Carrick, Rooney, Valencia and Berbatov and had the totally clueless and useless O’Shea in midfield and WIN. We still get crucified by idiots in the press. We played OK given the personnel on the field. Against a bouyant and strong Wolves team after their win over City we did enough to win. We won. We are two points shy of Chelsea who have already been given the title by the strident and stupid London press. Watching our performance against Wolves with the people we had missing I had been wondering what Chelsea will do without Essien, Drogba and Lampard – well it showed at Anfield tonight!!
We can leave the Council House with our unbeaten record intact if our manager does not “go for experience” and toss in the finished pair of Scholes and Neville from the start!
I think Bebe is gonna be ok. He will end up a centrail striker in the end.
Now people, can you please try not to compare any United player past or present with Ronaldo. Ronnie is the best player bar none to play for this club. I don’t care what Spike and some other older folks might say about George Best.
i don’t know if i’m being too optimistic, but i think fergie will actually start rafael. vidic, rio and evra are strong enough to allow rafael to start.
scholes and fletcher are definites in midfield. berbatov will surely start up front. park will also start. i think obertan will come in for nani, and possibly chicharito will be in the mix.
Normally you’d expect us to go with three in the middle of the pitch, especially with Rooney unavailable, but I’m not sure. City’s midfielders don’t get forward much.
Raf Rio Vidic Evra
Park Fletch Carrick Giggs
Anderson
Hernandez
isn’t carrick out? anderson was sick for the wolves match, so i don’t think he’ll start, a sub appearance at best.
i wouldn’t mind if hernandez starts, as long as bebe isn’t on the wing. hernandez works much more than berba.
that sounds ideal, but we have to take into account that Taggart will be pissed up again – and bring in the secret weapon Gibson.
he may also bring in anderson for some physical presence, however notional that may be – anything but gibson and oshea
Saw him play, my Idol until he started fookin with Sir Matt
