It’s all Greek to Me
On this week’s show a preview of two huge games for United. First Ed & Paul look ahead to United’s trip to Crystal Palace, where Tony Pullis’ south Londoners have enjoyed a revival in recent weeks to pull clear of the relegation zone. Can David Moyes relieve some of the pressure by securing three points against the newly promoted outfit? Then United travel to Athens for the Round of 16 first leg clash with Olympiakos. United’s record in Europe this season is strong, but how will the Reds fare in the atmospheric Karaiskakis Stadium next Tuesday? Also on the show this week: your questions answers, transfer gossip assessed and a review of United’s training holiday camp in Dubai!

early! Good work 😉
Every time someone clicks like on the rantcast, joy grow in my heart 🙂
Hi guys, long time reader, first time listener and I must say I enjoyed it (regardless of the hard times and difficult issues surrounding our beloved United). Agree very much about the fact that, if Moyes now has to stay (which we don’t like), at least the use of his extensive scouting can be a plus for the future. Cheers!
Great podcast as usual, couple of points I disagree with that were stated in last weeks Über rant.
1. You inferred that Moyes would not be, justifiably, given the boot because of Ferguson’s influence on the board. If his influence was so great please explain Rooney’s new contract.
2. Very few people distrust or detest the reptilian, parasitic Glazers as much as I do but I must question your sums regarding the ‘transfer kitty’ Please note that I will be ,like you, surprised if they made funds available. It should be noted ,however, that most transfer fees are paid over a minimum period of two years (In Ronaldo’s case four) Also why can’t the vermin liquidise, say, 20% of the stock. This would bring in almost $500m. Some of this could be used to bring in the required players. FFS would not be impacted as Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs and Vidic will be off the payroll at the end of the season as well as,hopefully some of the dross (Smalling, Cleverley, Evans,Valencia,Young, Nani, Anderson etc.) New players+ new manager=new investor confidence=increase in share price. Pondlife and supporters are all happy. Or am I being too simplistic?
I think the reason we have been more successful in Europe (up to now) is that Moyes employs tactics that the opposition knows nothing about as they were popular before their coaches and players were even born.
Sorry that should FFP
FFS!!!!
Had to laugh at your “FFS” slip (when FFP was probably what you meant), though it does accurately reflect how most of us feel about the current United situation. That bit at the end was funny as well.
FYI, the speaker/writer implies, the listener/reader infers.
Hi Red1961 – yes most fees (at least with European clubs) are paid over the length of the contract, but there is the amortisation effect in FFP to take into account. Essentially you have to account for the fee paid and the book loss on writing down the value of the asset. It’s not a simple equation, but you pay the piper later if you are profligate with finances now.
Cheers Ed thanks for clarification and putting up more shares for offer on the market? I know you need to factor in a figure for depreciation due to the increase of stock available
Great podcast by the way
See we have a dross factor of 4 tonight, Smalling, Cleverley, Young and Valencia. By my calculation 4 is borderline.
Podcast on a Friday morning? You beauty!!
Rooney is now going to be a club ambassador when he retires.
As justifiable as that contract.
Coward of a manager picks cowardly players. Cleverley, Young and Valencia can only walk upright because of the yellow streak replacing their backbones, Hiders, cheats cowards!!! Interesting to hear what the gutless, useless, delusional piece of crap we have as ‘manager’ has to say about this Über shambles. Must be gone before flight lands in Manchester
Mocking Arsenal’s Campbell???? Oh dear.
