The Window SLAMS Shut
On this week’s pod, Ed & Paul look back on United’s disappointing fixture with Burnley at Turf Moor. The scoreless draw came amid another insipid attacking performance from the Reds, although manager Louis van Gaal will be pleased with a clean sheet. It was also the occasion of Angel Di Maria’s debut – the £60 million Argentinian appearing for 70 minutes in central midfield. Burnley followed the humiliating defeat at Milton Keynes Dons in the Capital one Club. A cluth of youngsters and fringe players conspired to produce one of the worst United performances in memory. There’s speculation about the final few days of the transfer market – who is set to leave and who might arrive before the window closes on 1 September. Finally, your questions and a brief look ahead to the international break.

OMG OMG O. M. G.
Absolutely mind blowing!
wow…just wow
Can’t help thinking that buying di Maria and Falcao is like having a tit job when you really needed a heart transplant. That said I have always been a tit man myself.
Good one, giggyjon.
Di Maria and Falcao, that’s fantasy football.
Get James Wilson out of cotton wool and play him. Then when he starts to get physically or mentally tired, give him a rest. But give him his chance.
Christ, we’re going to be so good on FIFA.
Interesting about the transfer out situation.
For Kagawa, Welbeck and Hernandez’ careers, it’s probably a move in the right direction, but with a touch of regret from many United fans.
Meanwhile the ones who should have gone, the real dead wood are still on the payroll e.g. Cleverley, Anderson, Young and Valencia.
and Fellaini
“Interesting about the transfer out situation”
Yeah; at least, Sporting Lisbon were willing to let Nani wear one of their shirts as long as MUFC paid his wages. On the other hand, as you rightly note, there was no one who would take on AshleyBloodyYoung, NotSoCleverley, MrBlowJob, AV25, or FatBoyAndo for free.
Those five will be like Winston Bogarde was for CSKALondon a few years ago – trousering their weekly pay packets and moving the cones on the training pitch. Hopefully, they’ll be kept away from the reserves who hardly need these guys to be their “role models”.
That does make some sense though. The likes of Welbeck, Kagawa & Hernandez have some resale value, because they are good players. Not the best for LvG’s team, but potentially useful for the clubs they have gone to.
It’s hard to say the same about the likes of Valencia, Young, Fellaini, Anderson, etc. The former two get byes as fullback/wingback cover but in reality none of them are enticing propositions for “top tier” clubs.
The “real deadwood” are here to stay and collect their contracted salaries.
One thing, we don’t need van Gaal.
With all these quality players, you and I can manage this team and win the league.
