Motivate This
Six victories in a row followed by defeat at Stamford Bridge last weekend and then again at Everton on Sunday has brought Louis van Gaal’s team crashing back to earth. The Dutchman characterised his team’s performance at Everton as “lacking in motivation.” United’s 3-0 loss could be catastrophic, with Liverpool not yet completely out of the chase for fourth place in the Premier League. And does this make United the new Arsenal – forever passing the ball sidewards and desperately chasing fourth place? Ed & Paul discuss all the fallout from the Reds defeat on Merseyside, take your questions and look forward to what should be a much more routine win against West Brom next week.

So coaches see team lacked motivation, didn’t they or don’t they have the wherewithal to gee them up?
I think you are being too negative. In the first half Utd were all over them. Once it was 3-0 heads dropped, naturally. One failing this season has been the difficulty in getting past a stubborn defence and that was the case again. Apart from that, Valencia figured in all 3 of their goals. This is just highlighting that he is not a right back. And let’s face it, they had the rub of the green with all 3 goals. The first goal benefitted from a couple of loose balls falling kindly. On another day the second could have been cleared by Young instead of his attempted clearance going in off the bar. And third was hardly an intended pass to the player who got the ball in the end.
About Falcao, when you think about it, he’s not done anything that Hernandez couldn’t have done. I’d be happy to see Hernandez return but he needs to make the same decision that Solskjaer needed to do. Does he play second fiddle at Utd (or Madrid) or play every week at Everton, Spurs, Southampton etc?
