Van Gaal’s Toxic Legacy
Another week, another disappointing result after United lost to a low quality Sunderland outfit at the Stadium of Light. Low quality you say? A phrase that aptly describes the team that Louis van Gaal has built. With the Champions League now seemingly out of reach Ed & Paul ask – why has the Dutchman still got a job and just how toxic is his legacy at the club? In addition to looking back on United’s trip to Sunderland there’s a look forward to United’s match with number-crunchers Midtjylland in Denmark. And while we’re talking numbers there’s a quick discussion about United’s Q3 results and a look forward to the Reds’ defeat at Shrewsbury in the FA Cup.

Simple why he still there Edwood he be the 2nd manger under him to be sacked he needs to go aswell and lets get some realistic targets instead of player we will never land sack them both for lieving us short up front with more games this season than last ,we sold zaha who has the talent but bad att so we buy Memphis who has no talent and is the worst player iv ever seen waist of 26 mill
I was lured back into watching by the recent results.
My mistake.
We were terrible and second-best against a completely mediocre side, which looked like the top-five side.
Seems like nothing has changed since I stopped organizing my Saturday around watching United back in December. We truly are terrible and the joy has really just left me. I don’t even like any of these players really. I root for the kids I guess (and De Gea, he’s immense), but what an awful team.
Hi – fan of the rant. Mentioned buying badly as a problem. Fellani and Blind aside who were bad buys vs not met expectation yet?
Why should we change ? the Glazers have got obscene wealth coming their way and nothing can stop these blood suckers from screwing every last cent from the club. Oops forgot one thing, Liverpool supporters did the one thing that terrifies Business people throughout theworld, they voted with their feet and sent a powerful message to another set of Yanks. United fans long ago surrendered like lambs to the Glazers and have now got what they deserve, a second rate team/manager. By the way lads dont forget to spend as much money as you can in the club shop and the bar ( naturally inside the ground ). The Glazers need every last dollar
I wonder if the main problem is as Ed says: ‘they don’t want it as much’. I know this is a footballing cliche, but for young men on excesses of a hundred thousand a week, maintaining hunger and ambition is difficult. I don’t think this is a problem Van Gaal faced at Ajax. It’s as though he’s waiting for players to work rather than using every method available to goad a performance a la Ferguson.. Or dare I say, Mourinho. Rooney’s short lived burst of form looks more likely to have come from being accused of ‘failing week after week’ in front of his son at a WWE event than a man to man with Louis.
It’s sad that the squad are not responding; they certainly won’t be afforded the same trust and respect under Jose I imagine.
The music at the end is fantabulous! HA!
Great show as always
I blame the rantcast for our loss at Sunderland too 🙂
do you think united should get a technical director and let ed handle the business side of things while the technical director handles the football side
The problem with the influence of toxic material is that long after the waste is removed, the place is still too contaminated to be any good. Takes years before the influence is gone.
I have a “twitter” question. @lecoqdezellwiller asks “Paul are you related to Jim Sterling by any chance? He must also be a manc because you sound almost identical to him.”
