The End
The end of United’s season and for Louis van Gaal’s time at the club. At least the old boy went out with some silverware to show for it after one of the most miserable campaign’s in living memory ended with the Dutchman facing the sack. Van Gaal’s time at United has been a failure, even if it concluded with the veteran coach defiantly parading the FA Cup in front of the media on Saturday night. Bye Louis, welcome, José. Ed & Paul cover all the main talking points from United’s 2-1 extra time victory over Crystal Palace at Wembley. It was a classic ‘game of two halves’ (three!) which featured a spectacular winning goal from Jesse Lingard and a fine captain’s performance from Wayne Rooney. Van Gaal’s dismissal and Mourinho’s arrival are covered in full, while there’s a look back on the season with the coveted Awards. There will be a special series of Euro shows, covering the European Championships in France this summer.

Should have done podcast later in week with reaction to jose appointment
happy now that Lvg is gone?
Valuable perspective from Samuel Luckhurst on the MEN site: United have fended off PSG and Florentino Perez in securing an elite manager. Doesn’t change the tackiness of Mendes arranging for the story to break at Wembley itself.
Which tackiness would pale in comparison to our signing Ibrahimovic at this (MLS) stage of his career.
Great pod guys, thanks for all the work put in this season. My personal theory as to why the story broke, I read it before the final even started by the way, was to force United’s hand in case they had a change of heart after winning the cup. The Mendes camp have been trying to make it a done deal all season, hoping to undermine van Gaal I guess and make the appointment more likely.
Well the black arts win you things sometimes and we have a few masters at it in Mourinho and Mendes in control of the club. Marcus Rojo is a Mendes signing by the way, Mendes stopped van Gaal selling him to Monaco apparently, so don’t expect him to go anywhere. He was probably under instruction to play like shit!
I thnk you’re a bit harsh on Rooney and his Hollywood balls. Remember Beckham, didn’t do any running just created a few great chances a game with glory balls and did little else. But that’s all you need, you just need a goal or two to win a match usually. Scholes was another one for the crossfield pass and wasn’t exactly a fast player.
Anyway, we’ve had some great years, now I suppose we have to sit back and watch the soap opera, or telenovela rather.
Another season of ‘Game of Thrones’ will begin in August.
Some interesting articles, enjoy the summer off (like me)
Jo$e – let the fun begin.
Rooney will play from 10. Like Lampard. Facilitator, circle to box. Van Gaal tolerated Rooney because he is the ultimate Kool-aid player. Humble, no ego, can play 30 different positions 7/10 and has an epic vertical when the boss says “jump”. The goal that Rooney scored against Bournmouth will be how he scores 10+ of his goals in the coming season. I rarely do predictions but you can bank that one. Tell em’ The Rooster of Zellwiller sent you.
Can’t wait. Really interested to see what Mourinho will create at United. Sports entertainment at its best.
très magnifique!
The lingard goal where he spins was against chelsea
exceptionnelle senior jesse Lingard
Thanks for another great season guys. Could not have made it through this rough period in United life without the aid and comfort of the outrage on the cast. Bon Vacances!
Look. This was by far Wazzas worse season as a United player, he was horrible and this is coming from a massive fan but he’s not as bad as the haters and the media think he is. Contrary to popular belief his best position is just off the shoulder of the main striker, thats Wazza at his best, scoring goals and assisting the main guy up top. He played there for Fergie and Moyes and excelled. He also needs pace in the side, thats why he had a decent end to the season. LvGs tactics and strange formations made him seem twice age, I mean the guy JUST turned 30. Now whether Jose will play two up top or not he’ll definitely increase the tempo of play and Wazza will have a better season. Also lets not forget Jose wanted to sign him 3 years ago, he’s a huge admirer of him and he’ll definitely captain and start next season, thats a no brainer.
