David Moyes Disappreciation Society
United came, United saw, United stuck it to David Moyes on Wearside. So, it wasn’t the finest performance, but after two draws at Old Trafford in the past week, three points offer a great fillip to the Reds’ hopes of making the Champions League. Ed & Paul look back on the game at the Stadium of Light and wonder if this victory is enough to get United’s campaign for a place in the top four back on track? As usual there are plenty of listener questions and a look ahead to Chelsea’s visit at the weekend. Finally, Ed talks to George Nott from Football Radar about the upcoming Europa League tie with Anderlecht.

Agreed, it was the right thing to retain Lingard: already acclimatised to both English football and our club; tendency to reserve his goal-scoring for when it most matters suggesting a big game temperament. Disagree that £100,000 is the going rate for squad players – tell that to Tottenham, whose Dele Ali-level talents are kept highly motivated – and kept at the club – for about that money, and whose Lingard-equivalents will be on much much less.
I am not saying I want to see United losing players the way that Arsenal do; I am saying that we now pay over the odds compared to pretty much every other club outside China.
