On the pod Ed & Paul look back on United’s victories over Everton in the Premier League and Schalke in Europe. We ponder United players on Twitter – can Wayne Rooney make a success of it, or is it a disaster waiting to happen? What drove Darron Gibson on to and then off the social networking site within days? And we look ahead to the weekend’s fixture with Arsenal and the return leg with Schalke. United in the final – it’s a foregone conclusion, isn’t it?

Rooney’s mood against Everton is no more than Roy Keane did week-in, week-out. I’m glad he’s getting fired up. I think we need more of that.
Sorry, Paul.
Berbatov is a spent force. Accept it. He’s far too streaky to justify a place — to say nothing of his price tag. How many other teams have 30 million pound strikers whose managers don’t trust them in the big matches?
You’re asking me to accept that which I do not want to accept. I’m in a heart vs head situation!
I don’t mind Rooney getting fired up, but the flappy arms thing bothers me. Also, I think Keano had a very different impact on the players around him when he was frustrated, because he led by example. As I said, I think Nani in particular I think suffers when Rooney starts glaring daggers at him. Which, I should add, I totally understand given that Nani must be quite frustrating to play with when he’s not on song.
I know you love Berbs, I just can’t see why!
I’ve never warmed to him and he’s never really done it in the big matches.
The reason I say sell him is this: It’s obvious he’s not a starter now, and he’s such a fragile thing, his ego can’t take coming off the bench, so what good is he?
I think we’ve made far too many excuses for this player. How many of Berbs misses would RVN — or even Saha or Forlan — stuck away?
Ed, your Ando behind the striker pun nearly got me run over. Stop trying to be James Richardson, it’s dangerous.
Secondly, Rooney playing where he likes is amazing. Seeing him pop up in DM and order people about are his natural instincts taking effect. I think we should still pursue an advanced playmaker and maybe a tenacious ball winner but for now, this is great.
Also, I would like our exact formation & team selection in the last few CL matches (with Rafa as RB) to be what we put out “if” we get to the final. The only problem is Fletcher coming back into the team. Do we play him and sacrifice this fluid style we have recently developed or change the way we have been playing to combat Barcelona? I personally would like us to stick to our guns.
I will discuss my opinions on this matter at length IF we get past Schalke on Wednesday!
Surprised, albeit in retrospect, about the optimism for the Arsenal game. United have proved this season that a succession of really good performances is beyond them. Over run in midfield again. Fletcher is sorely needed for the last few games.
I never felt like our casters did. I always saw this game as being problematic and felt like Arsenal would throw the kitchen sink at us. A loss did not surprise me.
