Great to Beat the Gooners
On this week’s show United’s 8-2 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford as we head into the international break. Ed & Paul laud Fergie’s ability to build yet another fantastic side. We talk fourth quarter financials and discuss United’s upcoming IPO in Singapore. We also discuss the summer transfer window, with no late arrivals at Old Trafford, what will be the effect on Ferguson’s squad in the coming season…. and why on earth is Darron Gibson still at the club?! Stranger still, why has Owen Hargreaves joined Manchester City?

Great show, guys.
I lost my feed when United were up 3-0, but was very surprised and delighted to read later that the final score was 8-2. I downloaded the .avi files thinking that this would be a match I would watch over and over, but having watched it once, I find that I am not anxious to sit through it again. Don’t get me wrong; it’s wonderful that United scored 8 goals, and it’s always great to beat Arsenal, but I will stick to watching replays of the match where United ended Arsenal’s lengthy home unbeaten streak with a hard fought 4-2 result. I guess I just don’t hate Arsenal the way I used to. because, if this result had been achieved against City or Cheatski, I know I’d re-watch it again and again.
Good stuff, what was that song at the end though, and what happened to the United Calypso?
“United Calypso” was played at the beginning of the show and “This Is the One” by Manchester’s own The Stone Roses was played at the close. The lead singer, Ian Brown, is a big United supporter.
Rob – I had planned to rotate the closing song each week. Music that is relevant to United… or tracks that people had sent in. Would have last week but Paul insisted on singing United Calypso to close!
Ed – That’s fine, as long as you stay away from Simply Red; I would rather listen to Paul sing.
A popular choice.
Ed, are you 100% on that NUFC story?
I saw that doing the rounds about a year ago, surely it’s been made up by some SAFC fans?
triggs – it’s definitely old but I was emailed a clipping from a newspaper, rather than a link on a Sunderland website.
Hi Guys,
I was wondering if you had any insights on why Nani is sending Young away from taking the corners?
Last season we were plagued with Nani kicking the ball into the opposition player at the front post and the corner ended (Not Above Number 1: NAN1 we called him).
At the start of this season Young started taking the corners and we could start counting our threats in the box. Corners were a goal scoring opportunity again! I’m sure there are bigger footballing brains than mine encouraging him to do this…do you have any thoughts?
Yes…
Just a couple…
Usually involving Sofía Vergara, and a locked room.
