Fans urge Prime Minister to act over Glazers
Manchester United supporters are petitioning the Prime Minister to act now against the Glazer family in light of the club’s £500 million bond issue. The petition, hosted on the Number10.gov.uk website, urges PM Gordon Brown to act on behalf of all football fans, citing also the current financial problems at Liverpool and Portsmouth.
“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to believe the Government should urgently take action on behalf of all football supporters to prevent Manchester United Football Club (and other English football clubs) being destroyed by corporate greed,” urges the online petition, which can be signed here.
Although Government is very unlikely to act in the private financial matters of a Limited Company, unless the Glazer family breaks competition or regulatory rules, local MPs have previously shown support for the activities of the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (MUST) and Independent Manchester United Supporters’ Association (IMUSA).
